“Terrorism is enemy of the entire humanity. The international community should fight against it unitedly,? said senior BJP leader Smt. Sushma Swaraj. She was speaking at the second Pramod Mahajan Conclave organised in New Delhi on April 29 by the Pramod Mahajan Foundation.
Describing terrorism as the biggest threat to internal security of the country, she said India lost about 8,023 soldiers in all the wars fought against Pakistan and China so far, but we have lost 70,000 innocent people in terrorist activities since Independence. She said the international community should have become serious towards terrorism after Mumbai blasts in 1993. ?The funding channels of Mumbai blasts were the same who funded the attackers of 9/11. After Mumbai, we witnessed blasts in Delhi, Varanasi, Gandhi Nagar (Akshardham temple), Hyderabad and even an attack on our Parliament,? she added.
She said POTA was not anti-Muslim but anti-mujarim (criminals) and a mujarim does not belong to any religion or community. He is an enemy of the entire humanity. Talking about Naxalism she said the government has admitted in the Parliament that 13 states, 95 districts and 361 police stations of the country are in the grip of the Naxalites.
Smt Rekha Mahajan, wife of the late Pramod Mahajan, said perfection was the prime quality of Pramodji. Whatever he did, he did it with perfection.
Shri Anand Kumar Verma, former head of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) said India is facing multi-dimensional threat to security. ?China looks at us with suspicion as we have given shelter to the Dalai Lama and India supports Tibetan liberation movement. Pakistan'sproxy war still continues and nothing positive can be expected from the new regime in Pakistan,? he said.
Sardar Tarlochan Singh said the economic growth would prove meaningless if we continue to ignore the threats to our security. He said political parties of the country are repeatedly ignoring the real threats to national security.
Samajwadi Party general secretary Shri Amar Singh, BJP general secretary Shri Vijay Goel, BJP spokespersons Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, former Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Dr Najma Heptullah, former BJP spokesperson Shri Prakash Javadekar, BJP national secretary Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Mayor of Delhi Smt Arti Mehra and a number of MPs, former ministers and distinguished people of Delhi were also present.
