Shankaracharya of Jayotishpeeth Swami Madhvasharm Maharaj has demanded the UPA government to enact a strict central law for honestly banning the cow slaughter in the country. He also called upon the countrymen to get united against the cow slaughter and pressurise the government for taking such an important decision at the earliest. The Shankaracharya was addressing a massive gathering of thousands of devotees assembled at the 15th foundation day celebration of the Bhavya Jagjanani Darbar in Loni, Ghaziabad on February 14. Founder of the Darbar, Pt. Jaikumar Sharma popularly known as ?Jalwale Guruji?, welcomed the Shankaracharya on behalf of the devotees. Scores of dignitaries from the adjoining areas were also present on the occasion.

The Shankaracharya further said that following the directives of the Supreme Court the governments of all the states should impose strict ban on cow slaughter in the country. ?It is unfortunate that despite the ruling of the apex court for the ban on cow slaughter, the practice is still on. It shows that the mentality of slavery still prevails even after the departure of British from the country,? he said adding that the cow occupied a sacred position equal to a mother in Hindusim. ?In our culture the cow is abadhya (cannot be killed) because we give her a status equal to the mother. But by killing the cows some people repeatedly disrespect our culture and the way of worship, which would not be tolerated for long,? he added.

Pt. Jaikumar Sharma, in his speech, stressed the need that the Hindus should follow the principles of their way of worship and they must participate in religious activities. He said the benefit one gets by performing pooja in a temple is ten times higher than the pooja performed in the houses. Mahamandaleshwar Swami Raghwananda also appealed to the people to put pressure on their representatives in the Assembly and the Parliament to work for protecting the cow and her progeny. Former MLA from Nandnagari, Shri Roopchand also spoke on the occasion. Chairman of Loni Municipality, Shri Vinod Bansal and Shri Jaiprakash of Goraksha Samiti also graced the occasion.

Presenting the annual report of the Darbar, Shri Shyam Verma, joint secretary of the Trust, informed that a total of 349 deaf and dump people got voice after visiting the Darbar and 356 people again visualised the world. Besides this, about 3,100 people, suffering from various diseases, were cured with the blessings of the Goddess. He pointed out that a total of 66,060 people abandoned alcohol and other kind of addictions. He said a total of 13,35,472 people visited the Darbar this year and over 2,000 issueless couples were blessed with children due to grace of the Goddess.
