VIJAYAWADA unit of Sanskar Bharati celebrated 150th anniversary of 1857 war of Independence recently by staging a drama at Kalakshetram. The two and a half hour long drama invited houseful audience who enjoyed the play and recollected the memories of the war with light and sound effect in a local folk art known as Burrakatha. The drama was supported by Telugu poems and Bharatnatyam. The roleof Rani Jhansi was played by Smt. Surabhi Jamuna Rayalu from Surabhi, a famous Kuchipuri dance cult. More than 66 artists participated in the drama. Padmshri T. Kutumbarao, member of the 150th Anniversary of 1857 war Committee, state government, was one of the guests. Kshetra Pracharak Shri Bhagaiah, Shri P.R. Krishnamurthi of Sanskar Bharati, Shri P. Jaganmohanrao, Smt. P. Rajakumari, Shri M. Narayanarao Prasad, Shri NVVS Murthy, Shri P. Prabhakar Rao were also present on the occasion. The drama was based on the book of Veer Savarkar.
