Inaugurating the Gujarat unit of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, leading educationist and former Union HRD Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi has said the present education system is leading the new generation to oblivion. Stressing the need of mass awakening he said the British deliberately gave us the education system, which takes away from the roots. ?There have been debates on industry, economic problems, agriculture, etc. but there is no national debate so far on the state of education in the country,? he said.

He said imparting the knowledge of three ?R'sis not complete education. ?The knowledge, which educates about the truth is the real education. We are still being taught that Aryans came from outside. The puranic river Saraswati is termed as a myth, whereas the ISRO has discovered an underground water flow of more than 10,000 years old. Our education does not include the knowledge from Ramayana, Geeta, Upanishads, Vedas and philosophy. In the beginning of all the things only the scholars and philosophers of Greek are mentioned. Our students are well aware of Edison, Newton and Voltaire, but they know nothing about Aryabhatta, Varahmihir and Sushruta. The Bodhayan theorem is called Pythagoras theorem. Instead of accepting the knowledge discovered by our ancient rishis thousands of years back, we ridicule that,? he added.

Dr Joshi further said misleading facts about the national heroes like Shivaji, Guru Govind Singh, etc. are taught to the students. The books prepared by the government agencies are full of unconstitutional words. Not only this now sex education is being included in the syllabous to deteriorate the young minds. He emphatically said everyone born in this country is a Hindu whatever his/her way of worship is. The ancestors and history are not changed with the change of way of worship. If correct teaching and true history of the country is saffronisation, we would like to do it in every birth. We have to accept that the principle of gravity was developed by Aryabhatta and not by Newton, Shri Joshi said.

Earlier, Shri Atul Kothari, joint convener of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, highlighted the objectives of the movement and also the steps taken by the Samiti so far. Shri Harshadbhai Shah has been appointed president of the Gujarat unit of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, while Shri Balkrishan Patel is the convener.  (VSK, Gujarat)
