Hindu Munani founder president Shri Rama Gopalan has called for the opinion and views of the general public, ecologists, archaeological and Geological Surveys of India to be taken into account on Ram Sethu issue. He also urged the Central Government to go for a new alignment for Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project (SSCP) and declare Ram Sethu a national heritage.

He cautioned if Ram Sethu is damaged it would lead to ?volcanic eruptions? in the country. To decide and intensify the future course of action on the Ram Sethu issue, he said the Rameswaram Ram Sethu Protection Movement (RRSPM) would hold a conference in Madurai on July 22 in which the VHP general secretary Dr Praveen Togadia would participate along with saints and Hindu leaders. ?We have also invited various political parties cutting across caste lines to the conference,? he said.  (VSK, Chennai)
