Though the period of initial 100 days is very short to evaluate the performance of a government, the concrete initiatives taken by the BJP government led by Chief Minister Maj. Gen. (retd.) B.C. Khanduri, have developed a hope in the eyes of the people of Uttarakhand. The government had made its priorities very clear right in the beginning, which includes making the state an ideal state as per the culture of the state, respect for women and their participation in governance, increase in job opportunities and holding of evaluation meeting in every three months to check the implementation of election manifesto of the party. The Chief Minister has set up a Public Grievance and Suggestion Cell in his office and any person can contact him through telephone, fax or internet. ?Tuning of the administration and making it accountable for public, financial discipline, starting developmental activities, initiating good measures to create jobs and fill up vacancies and check on corruption are some of the initiatives that I have taken in this period. In fact, I wish to make Uttarakhand a corruption free state,? said Shri Khanduri talking to Organiser in Dehradun.
The Chief Minister has also constituted a Security Commission to study the problems of Bangladeshi infiltration and the activities of Maoists in the state. ?The Commission has started working and after submission of its report we shall have some idea of the problem and then we shall strengthen the security system,? he said.
For solving the drinking water problem, the government has taken some short-term initiatives. ?Since we took over in March, we did not have much time to take long-term measurers as the months of May and June witness major drinking water problem across the state. Repairing the existing system and stopping wastage of water through leakage are some of the interim arrangements that have been taken care of. For long run solutions we are now evolving a mechanism so that during the next summer such problems do not arise. We shall allocate enough funds for it in the budget also,? he added.
Taking strong action against the land mafias in the state Shri Khanduri has proved that he would not compromise over the interest of the common man. Now no non-Uttarakhandi person can purchase residential plot measuring more than 250 sq. meter anywhere in the state. To purchase the land more than this measurement, the buyer will have to seek permission from the government. Putting a check on change of land use, the government has saved the agriculture land from the clutches of land mafias.
