Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, the largest labour organisation of the country, has termed the Union Budget for the year 2007-08 as anti-poor and anti-labour. Commenting on it BMS general secretary Udairao Patwardhan said in New Delhi that the Union Finance Minister has no sympathy to labour and he has provided nothing to them. ?There is absolutely no road-map in this budget to improve the worsening situation on employment front. The so-called employment guarantee is only on papers and on the field it is bleak everywhere. As the compliance of promise would need about 40,000 crore the budgetary allocation of paltry 5.7 thousand crore has exposed the union Government'slevel of sympathy to this serious problem perpetrating dark future on 20 crore strong young India,? he said.
Taking a dig at the Government'shollow promises, he said with this budget the Government would be able to provide only 12 days work in a year. ?Can it be called Employment Guarantee,? he asked. The BMS has been demanding the Right to Employment as the Fundamental Right for Indian citizens.
Expressing his concern over the new spirals of inflation, he condemned the Government for its inability to contain price rise. While the real worth of money is going down fast, is it not reasonable to ask for personal income tax payers to seek exemption upto 2 lakh Income, he asked. He condemned the Government for not conceding the demand. ?The inflation this time is all time high at 6.73 per cent. Price rise is basic economic issue and is not a political one and hence all nationalist should pay keen attention to the challenge thrown at them,? he added. (FOC)
