The Nilgiri district Prathmic Shiksha Varga of RSS was held in Kothagiri between December 14 and 31. Over 200 participants received training in conducting Shakha at the camp. On the closing day, swayamsevaks who attended the camp tried to conduct a path sanchalan but they were prevented by the police. When 64 swayamsevaks forming a part of the sanchalan led by Dakshin Tamil Nadu Prant Pracharak Shri Sthanumalayan, insisted on conducting the route march, they were arrested. They were released the same evening. The peculiar reason given by the police for the refusal of permission to the disciplined route march was that the hanging of Saddam Hussein in Iraq the previous day might cause some unrest in Kothagiri, an interior hilly village.  (VSK, Chennai)
