The Governor of Uttaranchal Shri Sudarshan Aggarwal said the Ganga gives life and every Indian should contribute for making her free from pollution and also to restore her cleanliness. Inaugurating the Ganga Mahotsava at Gangotri Dham in Uttarakashi, Shri Aggarwal called upon the countrymen to start a campaign for cleanliness of the Ganga from Gaumukh to the Ganga Sagar. Hema Malini, noted film actress and MP, also participated in the Ganga aarti along with the Governor. Speaking as chief guest at the function, the Governor said the Ganga is the most sacred river of the world and every Indian should preserve her sanctity as she washes the sins of all sinners. He warned that we should be aware of the increasing pollution in the Ganga, otherwise there would be a greater danger to the existence of the Ganga and the religious sentiments of Hindus as well as the Hindu culture cannot remain unaffected by this pollution. He appreciated the efforts of the Ganga Mahasabha, which is trying to create awareness among the tourists and pilgrims in this regard. He emphasised that the cultural heritage should be kept alive at any cost. Shri Aggarwal said like Swami Vivekananda, Swami Ramdev is spreading the message of Hindu culture in every nook and corner of the world. Because of Swami Ramdev and other great saints of the Hindu culture, Uttaranchal is emerging as a land of learning. Shri Vijay Pal Singh, MLA, Acharya Balkrishna of Divya Yog Mandir Trust, Swami Chidanand of Parmarth Niketan, and Swami Raghvendranand also stressed the need for keeping the Ganga free from pollution.
