Madhya Pradesh has the highest infant mortality rate in the country, followed by Orissa and then Uttar Pradesh. This has been revealed in the latest report titled ?Sample Registration System?, published by the office of the Registrar General of India. According to the report, Madhya Pradesh'sinfant mortality rate is 79 per 1,000 live births, followed by Orissa's77 per 1,000 live births and Uttar Pradesh's72 per 1,000 live births. The death rate in the country is highest in Orissa (9.6 per 1,000), followed by Madhya Pradesh (9.2 per 1,000) and Uttar Pradesh (8.8 per 1,000).
