Asia has overtaken Eastern Europe as a dominant region for global retail expansion, with 40 per cent of the top 20 markets, vs 35 per cent for Eastern Europe.
Against a backdrop of accelerating modern retail globalisation, India retained its position as world'smost attractive market for mass merchants and food retailers seeking overseas growth, according to a survey done by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney's2006 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI), an annual study of retail investment attractiveness among 30 emerging markets.
