The first phase of construction of 248 permanent houses for tsunami victims being constructed by Sewa Bharati at Keechankuppam village in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu is over. The houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries on July 6. The second phase of construction work has already been taken up this month. The reconstruction of a temple at Poombuhar is also going on and is expected to be completed by the end of June.
The Sewa Bharati was granted permission by Tamil Nadu government to construct 800 permanent houses for tsunami victims. The construction work is in full swing with the involvement of experienced engineers and will be completed soon.
Another rehabilitation project, i.e. the construction of an anbu illam (orphanage home) and a vocational training centre at Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district, is expected to be completed by the end of May this year and will become operational after the inauguration to be held in the first week of June. At present there are 14 such girls in the orphanage, whose parents have died during the tsunami catastrophe. In Puttur, a vocational training centre has been started in which 300 women are getting different kind of vocational training. A medical centre has also been started at this centre. Construction of 25 permanent houses in Arattupuzha Panchayat of Alappuzha district, Kerala, is also in progress.
