In a readers? survey conducted by Chitralekha, a leading Gujarati magazine from Mumbai, the Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been selected Man of theYear-2005. The magazine carried out a Gujarati readers? survey involving the readers of any daily, weekly, monthly or any Gujarati magazine in Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Rajkot. According to the magazine, the survey was systematically conducted by a Mumbai based market research agency, Hansa Research. In the survey tennis player Sania Mirza has been selected second and the noted film actor Amitabh Bachchan was voted third.

Percentage wise, Shri Modi received the highest votes-49.12 per cent from Gujarat. Mumbai voted 16.93 per cent for him. He received the total 28.85 per cent votes. While Sania Mirza got 40.25 per cent votes from Mumbai and only 11.05 per cent from Gujarat and her final score was 23.14 per cent. In the survey, Sachin Tendulkar received 13.63 per cent votes while Congress president Smt. Sonia Gandhi received just 5.90 per cent votes. The full report has been carried extensively by the magazine in its issue dated January 23, 2006.

Despite repeated attempts on the part of vested interest, Shri Modi has been fighting against all odds on political and social fronts. Last year, BJP captured most of the local bodies of the state. The opposition party was not even in a position to react and the political analysts remained stunned.
