In an unexpected development, Shri Narendra Singh Bhandari, Education Minister in the Congress government of Uttaranchal who has many times said to cancel the recognition of Vidya Bharati-run schools, has praised the role of Vidya Bharati in imparting value-based education. Speaking as chief guest at the annual function of Pushpa Badhera Saraswati Vidya Mandir and Jai Dev Prasad Uma Dutt Kudiyal Saraswati Balika Vidya Mandir in Rishikesh, Shri Bhandari said that the existing Macaulay education system produced only job-seekers. ?The new policy proved counter-productive and is totally unsuited to fulfill our aspirations as a nation. We have to blame ourselves for such a sad predicament,? he said, describing Vidya Bharati as ?a true symbol of Indian culture?. The contribution by Vidya Bharati in the field of education is commendable. Vidya Bharati alone can rid the new generation of the increasing ill influence of western culture,? he added. Meanwhile, Shri Matbar Singh Kandari, leader of the Opposition, addressed the students at Saraswati Vidya Mandir Inter College, Vikas Nagar, and advised them to draw inspiration from great leaders.
