Nearly 400 devotees gathered together at the Sri Devi Kamakshi temple in Delhi on January 2, 2005 to collectively pray for the health and welfare of Kanchi Shankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal and to seek the blessings of Sri Kamakshi Amman for restoration of the dignity of the ancient Peetham.

This temple has had a glorious history of continuously serving the Indian civilisation for the past 2,500 years. The meeting was attended by several prominent personalities including former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, former Union HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Shri Subrahmanian Swamy, Shri Jana Krishnamurthy and Shri K.N. Govindacharya. Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Gaurav Raksha Samiti had organised the prayer meeting that lasted for almost two hours. During the meeting, hymns from the Vedas, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Shri Ramacharitamanas were recited. This was followed by the chanting of Lalitha sahasranaman by a group of devotees. Towards the end of the meeting, the thirteenth ashtapadi of Sri Sukhamani Sahib, that describes the gravity of the sin of offending a saint, was recited and explained by Shri Singh Sahib from the Gurdwara Nanak Darbar. The participants then joined Shri Singh Sahib in offering ardas for the health and glory of the Shankaracharya and Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt. The meeting ended with archana to Devi Kamakshi in the main mandapam of the temple. The archana, rendered by the young priest of the temple, was a moving occasion for the large number of devotees who had gathered at the meet.
