?A woman, who is full of self-confidence, harbours the feeling of sacrifice, sewa and hard work and has the ability to reproduce, is the backbone of the society. So far, she has been following the man, now she needs to move along with him. A woman is strong and capable by nature and can survive by herself. But man is still unable to survive alone. Women generally identify their strength much later. Need of the hour is that women should identify their strength and use it for the betterment of the society,? said Smita Talwalkar, a noted film actress and producer. She was speaking at the inaugural function of the Lakshmibai Kelkar'sbirth centenary celebration held in Nagpur on June 28. She expressed concern over the loss of collective thinking in the society. ?A woman, who identifies her strength, is able to find the key to success,? she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Pramilatai Medhe, Sah-Pramukh Sanchalika of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, said that Lakshmibai Kelkar was regarded as ?Vandaniya? because of her sensitivity to problems of the common man. Mausiji, as the Samiti'sfounder Lakshmibai Kelkar was popularly known, received the inspiration to raise her voice against the wrong traditions in the society and her determination to reform them from RSS founder, Dr K.B. Hedgewar. ?She dedicated her entire life to achieve this goal,? Pramilatai said, calling upon women to follow in the footsteps of Mausiji who introduced motherly love in her working style while working for the welfare of the society. ?Despite rising like a sun, Mausiji considered herself nothing more than a deepshikha (flame in a lamp). She inspired women to fight against social problems with determination,? Pramilatai said.

Inaugurating the exhibition organised on the occasion, Smt. Pritam Nada, chairperson, Social Welfare Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, called upon women to come out of their houses after fulfilling their domestic responsibilities for the betterment of the societal structure. She said women have talent and extraordinary qualities but these did not come to the fore due to certain social circumstances. Mausiji, in fact, aroused this dormant power and inspired women to work for the society. Prominent personalities who attended the inaugural function included Ushatai Chati, Pramukh Sanchalika of the Samiti and Shri Ranga Hari, Akhil Bharatiya Bauddhik Pramukh of RSS.
