Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) has welcomed the new UPA government under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh with the hope that he would translate the promises he made about constructing a new framework where agriculture, SSI (small-scale industries), unorgansied sector and employment generation would constitute the prime goal alongwith economic growth. ?Being a sincere and honest person as Dr Manmohan Singh is, we hope he will decipher the true meaning of the mandate and craft the policy to fulfill the expectations of the people. The new government has attempted to reflect the aspirations of the common man and also balance the growth imperatives,? said Muralidhar Rao, SJM convenor, while talking to mediapersons in New Delhi. He said the SJM would help the government in implementing the common minimum programme.
The SJM convenor said that the NDA lost the elections mainly because of two reasons: ?The government lost the confidence of the masses and secondly, the economic policies of the government failed to remove the sufferings of a large section of the people, particularly the working class.? He further said that the NDA government also failed to bridge the gap between the masses and the party. ?They failed to locate and fulfill the demands of the common man.? He however, appreciated the NDA government for successfully protecting the national interest in WTO, first under the leadership of the late Murasoli Maran and subsequently through Arun Jaitley.
