Senior vice president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Acharya Giriraj Kishore feels that the recent change of government would not affect any programme undertaken by the VHP. Talking about the new government, he said, it would be a miracle if the government would succeed. ?With people like Taslimuddin and Laloo Yadav in the cabinet, Dr Manmohan Singh is heading the criminals. It would be very difficult for him to run the government with such people,? he said. Organiser representative, Pramod Kumar spoke to him in New Delhi. Excerpts:

Do you feel the election results went true to expectations?
No, certainly not. The defeat of alliances has caused a major loss to BJP. I feel it was a fight between the two secular parties?the Congress and the BJP. Both were trying to compete with each other in being more secular. Secondly, the infighting within the BJP prevented the party from reaching the grassroots and it remained confined to only the upper classes. I feel they (BJP) did not care for the lower classes. They had no hesitation to go to Imam to get his fatwa, but they did not have the time to approach the Shankaracharya. They should now stop taking the Hindus for granted.

How stable will the new government be?
We have to see the results. In fact, it comprises a group of criminals. Criminals are ruling here. With people like Taslimuddin and Laloo Yadav in the cabinet, Dr Manmohan Singh is heading the criminals. It would be very difficult for him to run the government with such people. It shall be a miracle if he succeeds.

What have you to say on the so-called ?great sacrifice? by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, who declined to become the Prime Minister?
It was not possible for her to become Prime Minister as the President had reportedly put some queries to her and had also requested her to wait till May 26. The President is said to have told her that she would have to fight with persons opposing her foreign origin. This annoyed her and she decided to withdraw from the race. When she went to the Rashtrapati Bhawan, there was no such desire for sacrifice in her.

The Congress leaders are projecting it as a great sacrifice on her part?
This is a political projection and political jugglery.

What do you expect from this government?
The government should govern. The best government is that which interferes the least.

Any expectations with regard to the Ramjanmabhoomi issue?
No movement of the VHP was ever based on the government. When we started the Ramjanmabhoomi move-ment, there was no NDA nor any pro-Hindu government. Therefore, the change of government does not affect us at all.

What do you think of the involvement of Left parties in this government?
I think the worst aspect of this government is the involvement of communists and the Muslim League. I feel it is the samyavadi and sampra-dayvadi who are ruling the present government.
