?The day women learn to protect themselves, the country will learn to protect its culture. Women should be made strong enough to brave any kind of situation prevailing in the society. We also need to engage more women in the service of the poor and downtrodden,? said Sushri Mala Behan, all India convenor of Durgavahini. She was speaking at the training camp organised by the Rajasthan unit of Durgavahini. She said that women were being used as playthings by the multinational companies, who are befooling Indian women by attracting them to Miss World and Miss India pageants. She appealed to women not to participate in such events. Nearly 150 women from 20 districts of Rajasthan participated in the training camp, which began on May 16 and concluded on May 22.

Behan Girija Dube, all India co-convenor of Durgavahini, appealed to the women, especially to young girls to learn computer and other technological changes that are taking place in the country. Smt. Bina Sharma, central secretary of VHP, urged the women to become strong enough to face every possible challenge.

Speaking at the camp, Acharya Dharmendra, member of VHP Kendriya Margdarshak Mandal, appealed to the women to return to their Indian culture and values of life and put a stop to cultural degradation. He expressed concern on the way women were being presented in advertisements. ?One of the reasons for this degeneration is that we have left our samskars, family values and Indian traditions. It is the need of the hour to revive our age-old traditions,? he said. Later, a route march was taken out in the city, which was welcomed by people by offering flowers. (FOC)
