New Year as national integration day
?The Indian New Year Day should be celebrated as National Integration Day every year. It is highly unfortunate that we have today forgotten our Indian principles of life, which seems to be the main reason for our degeneration,? said Justice Devi Prasad Singh. He was speaking at a function organised by the Adhivakta Parishad in Lucknow to celebrate the Indian New Year on March 21. He said the New Year day reminded us of the great Indian culture and tradition. He further said that the Indian society today needed to build up nationalist thinking.
Speaking as chief guest, Adhish Kumar, Akhil Bharatiya Sah-Prachar Pramukh of RSS, described the Indian calendar as the most scientific and historical instrument. He said that the Indian culture begins with the birth of the earth. Our calendar begins with the Sun while the Hijari calendar begins with the Moon. About 752 yeas back, the Roman kingdom had just ten months in a year, he said. Talking about the Gregorian calendar, Shri Adhish Kumar said that the month of July was started in the name of Julius Caesar and the month of August was named after Augustus the grandson of Julius Caesar. ?It is unscientific to have 31 days in August and 28 days in February. Similarly the Christian months also do not have any connection with its different seasons; it is only the Indian calendar that is away from all such shortcomings,? he pointed out. (VSK)
