?The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has decided to work for raising the living standard of the countrymen by taking up rural development projects. Discussing the projects, the RSS Pratinidhi Sabha has decided to create self-help groups for different sections of the society,? said the Sahsarkaryavah, Madan Das while talking to mediamen in Jaipur after the meeting of the Pratinidhi Sabha.

Pointing out that more than 46,000 service projects on education, samskars, medical, etc. are being run by RSS and its associate organisations through-out the country, he said that under the rural development project the issues of water, sanitation, education, and social harmony would be given prominence. The Swayamsevaks would also ensure that the people get to enjoy the full benefits of government schemes. ?In areas where the government help is not available, the work would be done with the help of the society,? he said. Shri Madan Das informed that the three-day meeting discussed the venues and dates for the 77 first- and second-year OTC and 78th third-year OTC for 15,000 Swayamsevaks for this year. ?We also discussed various plans to extend the Sangh work,? he said. The Sah-sarkaryavah pointed out that there were more than 20 lakh Swayamsevaks in more than 49,200 shakhas all over the country. On the question of coming general election, he said that RSS would not direct its Swayamsevaks to support any particular political party. ?Our Swayamsevaks are intelligent enough to decide which party or candidate to support. The Sangh feels that during the last five years some concrete efforts have been made in the field of military power, on the economic front and on plans for creating the basic infrastructure. The country has also successfully improved relations with its neighbours. Although the present government is making India a strong nation, we feel that the government is just an instrument for social uplift. The main task is to develop that characteristic in the people which will bring about social change. The Sangh is doing the same work,? he said. (FOC)
