In Sri Lanka – Now a Morals Day

The Chief incumbent of the Sri Lanka International Meditation Centre, Most Ven. Harispattuwe Ariyalankara Thera announced a ?Day of Morals? to be observed by the country’syouth to dismiss the Valentine’sDay on February 14. According to a report in the Lanka Daily News, he said that Maha Sangh and Buddhist lay organizations had made arrangements to observe this day with extensive meditations campaigns across the island. ?We have already communicated this to leading members of the Christian and Muslim clergy.? ?A programme will be held at the Vihara Maha Devi Park to mark the Day of Morals on February 14 with the participation of youth from the city and suburbs.? Ven. Ariyalankara pointed out that Valentine’sDay is a borrowed concept from Europe that was planted in Sri Lanka less than two years ago and it is against the conduct of discipline found in the Buddha Dharma, Christianity and Islam.
