Hyderabad: Mohammed Wajid, a vegetable vendor at Golnaka Vegetable Market in Kachiguda, Hyderabad, has been booked by Kachiguda police following a complaint alleging that he repeatedly harassed a married woman by making late-night phone calls, speaking to her indecently and pressuring her to come outside.

The case was registered after the woman’s husband, a resident of the Golnaka Market area in Hyderabad, approached the police on August 21, alleging that Wajid had been harassing his wife for the past three months. According to the complaint, Wajid, who runs a vegetable business at Golnaka Market in Hyderabad, had allegedly been calling her during the night and pressuring her to come outside.

According to the complaint, Wajid again called the woman on August 21 and allegedly began harassing her. Her husband told police that Wajid had been reprimanded several times earlier over similar conduct, but there had been no change in his behaviour.

The complaint submitted to the IV Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Nampally, Hyderabad, also records allegations that locals had previously alerted the woman’s husband that Wajid frequently leered at women visiting his shop.

Based on the complaint, Hyderabad police registered a case under Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and handed over the case for further investigation.

As per local sources, Wajid allegedly collected the mobile phone numbers of women and young women who visited his vegetable shop in Hyderabad to purchase vegetables and later contacted them during the night. The allegations state that he spoke to them in a deceptive manner and sent obscene messages in an attempt to lure them.

The woman’s husband, after learning about the alleged calls, went to Wajid’s vegetable shop at around 9 pm on Friday, 21.08.2026, to question him.

Local residents in Hyderabad have also alleged that Wajid had previously trapped a married woman, following which she divorced her husband. This allegation is part of the claims being raised locally and remains subject to investigation.

On August 22, Hindu organisations and BJP leaders staged a protest near Wajid’s vegetable shop at Golnaka Market in Hyderabad, alleging that he had been specifically targeting Hindu women and young women who came to the shop.

The protesters alleged that Wajid used deceptive conversations to establish contact with women and subsequently harass or lure them. They described the alleged activity as “love jihad” and demanded strict legal action against him.

Representatives of Hindu organisations and BJP leaders in Hyderabad also demanded a detailed examination of Wajid’s mobile phone, alleging that it could contain the phone numbers, photographs and videos of several women. They urged police to investigate whether other women had also been contacted or harassed.

The protesters further approached the owner of the premises where Wajid was staying in Hyderabad and sought his immediate eviction.

The allegations regarding other women, including claims that Hindu women were specifically targeted, remain allegations raised by protesters and local sources. The police investigation will determine whether such claims are substantiated.
