Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, in a post on X, claimed that there had been ten incidents of sexual assaults on women and children in a single day, alleging that despite the change in regime, the condition of women and children had gone from bad to worse.

Nagendran questioned the silence over the alleged deterioration in law and order in the state. Referring to incidents reported on June 23, he said ten sexual assault cases in a single day were shocking. Citing incidents from the Dindigul bus stand to Chennai Marina Beach, involving schoolchildren, college students and sanitary workers, he alleged that women were unsafe under the Vijay-led government, accusing the Chief Minister of delivering oratorical speeches while remaining silent on the ground reality.

In another incident, a 14-year-old Class VII student allegedly stepped out behind her house on the morning of June 22 to relieve herself when she was waylaid by two engineering students, Maheshwaran (20) and Ajay (27), who were later arrested for the alleged gang rape of the minor near Chengalpattu, close to Kalpakkam.

Tamil Nadu BJP leader Karuppu Muruganandam, in a post on X, claimed that there had been 17 POCSO cases in Tirunelveli in the past 18 days, calling the situation shocking.

He questioned whether Tamil Nadu had turned into a “drug state from Bhavani to Nellai” and alleged that most of the crimes were being committed by youths under the influence of drugs. He urged the Chief Minister to act immediately and ensure the accused receive the maximum punishment.

Another post claimed that 17 POCSO cases had been registered in 18 days and that those arrested ranged in age from 18 to 66 years. It alleged that a lack of awareness was one of the reasons for the increase in such crimes.

Nagendran further said that while crimes against women and children were increasing, the Chief Minister should stop making excuses and delivering punch dialogues, and instead take concrete steps to ensure their safety.

The BJP President also alleged that the government had shown greater urgency in negotiating horse-trading to secure a legislative majority than in addressing public safety.

BJP functionary and technocrat Anandan Ayyasamy questioned the Tamil Nadu Police for allegedly concealing the identities of two adults arrested in a ganja seizure case in Tenkasi.

In a post on X, he identified the accused as Abdul Khalid (22), son of Abdul Aziz, from Sornapuram, and Thaufiq (23), son of Nagoor Meeran. He alleged that covering the faces of adults accused had no legal basis and deprived the public of their right to know, while claiming that international law enforcement agencies routinely publish mugshots in the interest of public safety.

Leader of the Opposition Udhaya Nidhi Stalin, while participating in the discussion on the Governor’s Address on June 22, alleged that more than 200 cases of sexual offences against women and children had been reported since the formation of the TVK government, with over 100 of the victims being children. Referring to incidents in Coimbatore and Gummidipoondi, he said the situation raised doubts about whether such incidents were taking place in Tamil Nadu.
