Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged renovation order at RG Kar Hospital that was cited by BJP earlier.

“Mamata Banerjee’s people were saying that the renovation order (of the room near the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital) was given to PWD before 9th August but today it has come to light that the order was received on August 10,” Suvendu Adhikari said.

He further urged to investigate the Chief Minister’s mobile phone for call records on the date of the incident.

“Rapists will be hanged but what will happen to those who protect rapists? We had demanded an amendment regarding this but they (state government) did not agree. Take Mamata Banerjee’s mobile phone and check the call records of 9-10 August, everything will come out,” he said.

Earlier, BJP national spokesperson Amit Malviya cited a letter dated August 10 allegedly signed by former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh ordering renovation of the incident site a day after the trainee doctor was raped and murdered.

Malviya dubbed it as “explosive” as he alleged that the West Bengal government and the hospital lied regarding the date of renovation.

In a post on X, Malviya stated, “This is explosive. Yet another piece of evidence, which establishes that Dr Sandip Ghosh, now arrested, disgraced former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, ordered repair/renovation of toilet, near the Seminar Room (scene of crime) on 10th Aug, a day after the young lady doctor was brutally raped and murdered (she was killed on the intervening night of August 8th/9th).”

“It means the claim of renovation starting prior to the date of crime was an OUTRIGHT LIE. The WB Govt and the hospital LIED. Kolkata Police even filed complaints against those, who shared the video of the broken wall,” he added.

Malviya further targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the hospital administration and the Kolkata Police regarding the letter and accused that three of them “colluded” to destroy all evidences and sanitised the scene of crime.

“This is evil and raises further questions on their motives,” he said.

Malviya retierated the demand for the Chief Minister’s resgination and alleged that “much of the evidence” have already been destroyed.

“Mamata Banerjee and Vineet Goyal must be subjected to polygraph test, to unearth the truth. The movement for justice will continue,” Malviya stated.

In the alleged letter dated August 10, the Executive Engineer was ordered to take up repair/renovation/reconstruction of on duty Doctors’ Room along with separate attached toilets in all departments of RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata on an urgent basis. The letter stated that there are “deficiency” of on duty Doctors’ Rooms and separate atatched toilets in various departments.

The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9. The incident sparked nationwide protests. A civic volunteer was arrested shortly after. The CBI also arrested Dr Sandip Ghosh, for alleged financial misconduct at the medical establishment.
