KANPUR: A stone Shivling and remains of a murti resembling Mata Gauri were found in the debris of an old wall that collapsed in Dahilar village, in the Sajeti police station area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The discovery drew a large number of villagers to the site, where they retrieved the stone objects and began performing puja.
According to the report, the wall collapsed. While clearing the debris, villagers discovered the stone Shivling and fragments resembling parts of a murti of Mata Gauri. They carefully removed the objects from the rubble and placed them separately.
Following the discovery, villagers offered flowers to the recovered objects and began worshipping them. As news spread through the village, more people gathered at the site to see the remains and discuss their possible historical significance.
According to local residents, the wall was approximately 1.5 metres thick and had been constructed using lime, bricks and other building materials. The structure reportedly occupied around two biswa of land and was surrounded by walls on all four sides. The walls on three sides had already collapsed before the remaining wall gave way on Thursday morning.
Villagers claim that the structure was built during the Mughal period and is approximately 1,000 years old. They also said that members of the Muslim community used to gather inside the structure for meetings around 25 years ago. Over time, the site reportedly fell into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance and gradually turned into ruins.
The discovery of the Shivling and the remains resembling a murti of Mata Gauri has drawn attention to the history of the old structure. The precise age, origin and historical significance of the stone objects remain unconfirmed. Further examination by the relevant authorities would be required to establish their antiquity and determine their historical context.
For now, the discovery of the Shivling and the remains of the Mata Gauri-like murti has become a topic of discussion among residents of Dahilar village, with villagers gathering at the site to offer prayers following the recovery of the objects.
