GUWAHATI: Congress party scored less than the independent candidates in Silchar Municipality corporation election in Assam which results were declared on 6th October. Interestingly, the election was conducted using ballot papers by the State Election Commission. BJP and AGP won 34 seats out of 42, while independent candidates won 6 seats. BJP alone won 32 seats. Congress was reduced to only 2 seats in the election held using ballot papers. “Out of 42 seats, 10 seats were minority-dominated, and 6 independent candidates won there; Congress managed only 2 seats. This proves BJP is in EVM, BJP is in Ballot; Modi is in EVM and Modi is in Ballot”, said a jubilant CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. He further said tomorrow on 7th October, PM Modi Ji will complete 25 years of service to the nation. On the eve of the great day, people of Assam have given a small gift of love to the Prime Minister.
The election was significant in the present context. When ECI conducts elections using EVM, Congress always cries foul play. But we won by a big margin in the ballot paper election as the numbers of votes of Congress party reduced further. Silchar Municipality Corporation election sent a message to Rahul Gandhi that the BJP is in EVM, BJP is in Ballot papers. “Modi Ji is in EVM, Modi Ji is in Ballot paper”, he said.
Earlier Congress party was forced to bite the dust in village committee election in tribal areas in Tripura too. The election was conducted using ballot papers where BJP led NDA has made a near-clean sweep of the Village Committee elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region, winning 4,320 of the 4,597 seats, about 94 per cent of the total, according to the final tally.
Tipra Motha Party (TMP) led by royal scion Pradyut Manikya Debbarman won with 3,428 seats. Remarkably, nearly four out of every five seats in the tribal council election were won by the NDA candidates. The BJP came second within the alliance with 859 seats, while its partner, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), picked up 33. Together, the three allies stand well clear of every rival party, mainly Left and Congress.
The opposition was left with scraps. The CPI(M) who ruled the state for many decades managed to win only 87 seats and the Congress just 14. The remaining seats.
