
Hindu Hate Watch: 49 Reported Cases in a Week
The week from July 6 to July 12, 2026, witnessed a series of incidents involving Hindu temples, religious sites, minors, women, families and individuals across several parts of India and Bangladesh. Religious sites featured prominently in the incidents reported during the week. A historic Saraswati idol in Karnataka was vandalised, a Shivalinga was found broken at an ancient temple in Ranchi, a Beeralingeshwara idol was desecrated in Dharwad, and a Kali idol was vandalised at a temple in Bangladesh. In other cases, temples were desecrated through acts such as the use of a sacred deepam to light a cigarette or the throwing of human waste inside temple premises. A 32-kilogram silver idol worth approximately Rs.51.20 lakh was also stolen from a Hindu temple in Vijayapura.
Several incidents involved Hindu women and minors. Reports from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Bangladesh abduction, sexual exploitation, stalking, blackmail, threats and pressure for religious conversion involving Hindu girls and women. In some cases, the accused were to have concealed their religious identity while establishing relationships with Hindu victims. The cases involving minors resulted in police action in several locations, while some victims remained missing at the time of reporting.
Allegations concerning religious conversion were also reported from multiple states. The detailed incidents from July 06 to July 12, 2026, are given below.
1. Hindu mandir broken into, Silver murti worth Rs.51.20 lakh stolen in Karnataka’s Vijayapura
A Hindu temple in Vijayapura district, Karnataka, was broken into during the intervening night, and a 32-kilogram silver idol of Sri Pavada Basaveshwara, valued at approximately Rs.51.20 lakh, was stolen from the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Pavada Basaveshwara Temple.
Unknown miscreants broke the locks of both entrance doors before entering the temple and stealing the murti. The theft was discovered on the morning of July 6, 2026, when temple authorities and devotees found the locks broken and the idol missing.
Following the incident, police were informed and registered a case against unknown persons. An investigation was launched to identify those responsible, recover the stolen idol, and ascertain the circumstances of the burglary. 2. 16-Year-Old Hindu Girl Abducted in Bangladesh, Muslim Man Arrested
A 16-year-old Hindu girl, Tisha Pal, was abducted in the Shahparan Police Station area of Sylhet, Bangladesh, after leaving her home on July 6, 2026, to visit her sister. She did not return, following which her father lodged a General Diary with Shahparan Police Station and submitted an application to RAB-9 seeking her rescue.
RAB-9 traced the girl to an area in Kanaighat upazila and rescued her during a raid on July 10. A Muslim man identified as Musa Mia, a resident of Singerkach village in Bishwanath upazila, was arrested during the operation on charges of kidnapping. The victim’s family stated that she had been abducted with the intention of converting her to Islam.
Following the rescue, authorities initiated the legal process to hand the minor over to her family and proceeded with further legal action against the accused. Officials stated that the exact circumstances and motive, including the family’s assertion regarding religious conversion, would be established through the investigation.
3. Hindu Man Arrested in Bangladesh Over Unverified Blasphemy Allegations Spread by Muslims
A Hindu man, Shimul Karmakar, was arrested by police in Natore, Bangladesh, after allegations surfaced that he had made a Facebook post insulting Islam and Muslims. The allegations remained unverified. Following the circulation of the allegations, a group of Muslims gathered outside Gurudaspur Police Station and issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding his arrest. Police were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
Later, Maulana Jasim Ahmad Badi filed a complaint against Shimul. Acting on what police described as a secret tip-off, officers from Gurudaspur Police Station arrested Shimul from Natore town. He was a resident of the post office area of Gurudaspur Upazila in Natore and was living in Dhaka at the time.
On July 7, 2026, police produced Shimul before a court, which ordered that he be sent to jail. According to Tariqul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge of Gurudaspur Police Station, the case against Shimul was based on allegations that he had made a Facebook post insulting Muslims.
4. Minor Hindu Girl Lured into Relationship and Sexually Exploited by Muslim Man
A minor Hindu girl in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was lured into a relationship and sexually exploited by a Muslim man identified as Wasim. According to a complaint filed by the girl’s father, Wasim first contacted her through Instagram when she was 15, after having worked at the family’s residence, and gradually entered into a relationship with her. The complaint that he sexually exploited her over the following four years.
The girl’s father further that two Muslim women, Neha Khan and her friend Ikra, residents of Mainapur village, encouraged the relationship, taught his daughter to offer namaz and persuaded her to convert to Islam. He stated that his daughter ran away from home twice within 15 days and was brought back by police after emergency calls to the 112 helpline.
According to the complaint, the girl later stayed with tenants on the ground floor of the family home and spoke to them about poisoning her father and brother. She subsequently left home again and was traced by police and brought to the police station. The father that although police had informed the family that Wasim would be brought for questioning, he was not produced despite the family waiting at the station throughout the day.
The father also that his daughter remained in contact with Wasim through Neha Khan and Ikra, had threatened suicide if made to stay with her family, and had been administered drugs, with her health declining over the preceding nine months. He further stated that several Muslim youths had been seen loitering around the family’s residence in the preceding two days and requested police action against Wasim, Neha Khan and Ikra, along with protection for himself and his son and the rescue of his daughter from their influence.
5. Hindu Youth Tied to Tree and Brutally Assaulted After False Theft Allegation in Bangladesh
A Hindu youth, Pallab Das, was tied to a tree and brutally assaulted in Kodalia village under Tarakanda Upazila of Mymensingh, Bangladesh, after being accused of theft. A village arbitration was convened to examine the allegation, but the theft was not substantiated during the proceedings. Despite this, a group of influential local individuals tied Pallab to a tree and severely beat him.
Local residents later rescued Pallab in a critically injured condition and admitted him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment. Human rights activists and minority community leaders condemned the incident and demanded that those responsible be identified and prosecuted according to law.

6. Hindu Woman Raped and Blackmailed for Religious Conversion by a Muslim Man in Bareilly
A Hindu woman from the Aliganj police station area of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, that Haji Faheem Ali, a Muslim man and owner of New Fayyaz Care Hospital, sexually assaulted her, blackmailed her with objectionable videos, and pressured her to convert to Islam.
According to the complaint, the woman had been residing in a rented house in the Izzatnagar police station area for nearly 12 years. In April 2024, she joined New Fayyaz Care Hospital, owned by Haji Faheem Ali, and worked there for about a year before leaving the job.
The victim stated that a few months after resigning, Faheem Ali contacted her and offered her a job as an accountant at his tyre factory in Meerganj. She that he gained her confidence on the pretext of providing employment and later took her to different locations on various pretexts.
According to the complaint, on 14 September 2025, the accused took her to Hotel Geet International in Delapeer using identity documents of his wife, Shahista B, where he raped her and secretly recorded objectionable videos. The victim that the accused later used these recordings to blackmail her and repeatedly pressured her to convert to Islam.
The victim further stated that the accused threatened to circulate the videos on social media and threatened to kill her and her family members if she refused to comply with his demands. She also that he continued to call her to different locations, sexually assaulted her multiple times, and harassed her in public.
Based on the complaint, Prem Nagar Police registered an FIR against Haji Faheem Ali under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. Police arrested the accused, who was sent to judicial custody.
7. Hindus Forced to Convert to Islam by Islamic Cleric and His Son in Muzaffarnagar
In Phulat village of Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, Hindu villagers were lured and intimidated for religious conversion to Islam by Maulana Hafizur Rehman Ansari, director of Madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimiya, and his son Zubair Ansari.
The case was registered after Yunus, a resident of Phulat village, submitted a complaint alleging that the two accused had lured and intimidated several members of the Hindu community to convert to Islam.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case against Maulana Hafizur Rehman Ansari and Zubair Ansari under Sections 352 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3 and 5(2) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma constituted two special police teams to trace and arrest the accused. Police conducted raids at multiple locations and stated that further evidence was being collected as part of the investigation. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
8. Dalit Hindu Family Abused with Casteist Slurs and Threatened with Conversion by Muslim Men
A Dalit Hindu family in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh, that they were abused with casteist slurs and threatened with forced conversion to Islam after they opposed the conversion and nikah of their daughter with a Muslim man.
According to the complaint, the family’s 24-year-old daughter, who worked as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at a private hospital named Sai Jeevandan in Hasanpur, left home on 7 July 2026 and went missing. The family stated that after they failed to contact her, they reached the hospital to seek information about her whereabouts.
The family that instead of cooperating, the hospital staff abused and intimidated them. They stated that the victim’s father was subjected to casteist remarks, and the family was threatened with conversion to Islam. According to their complaint, they were told, “Leave or we will make you recite the Kalma here and convert you to Islam too.”
The family that their daughter was lured away, forcibly converted to Islam and married through nikah with the owner of the hospital where she worked. They further stated that her marriage had already been fixed and that the accused attempted to disrupt the proposed marriage by influencing the groom’s family before taking her away.
Following the incident, members of the Bajrang Dal joined the family and gathered outside the hospital on the Rahra-Sambhal Bypass in Hasanpur, demanding the recovery of the missing woman and action against those responsible. Police officials reached the spot and assured that an investigation would be conducted.
Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against Attan, Shahnawaz, Nazreen, Junaid and three unidentified persons under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, laws related to unlawful religious conversion, cow slaughter and other applicable offences. Police teams initiated searches to trace the missing woman and the accused persons.
9. Historic 150-Year-Old Hindu Cremation Ground and Monastery encroached
A historic Hindu monastery and cremation ground in Kishoreganj district, Bangladesh, were encroached upon after the boundary of the site was altered, resulting in the occupation of around two decimal acres of adjoining land and leaving the 150-year-old monastery outside the revised boundary.
According to local residents, the Satal Mahashmashan cremation ground had been used by the local Sanatan Hindu community for performing funeral and cremation rites for more than 150 years. A monastery located within the premises was also stated to have existed for around 150 years and was considered an important part of the religious site.
Residents that a locally influential individual altered the official boundary of the cremation ground and took possession of around two decimals of land adjoining the monastery. They stated that the boundary change separated the historic monastery from the cremation ground to which it had traditionally belonged.
Bappi Dutta, president of the Satal Mahashmashan Committee, stated that the monastery and surrounding land had always been recognised as part of the cremation ground. He that the boundary alteration resulted in the occupation of cremation ground land and called for an investigation and restoration of the property.
Zahirul Islam Selim, director of the Kishoreganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries, stated that the cremation ground and monastery represented nearly 150 years of local history and religious tradition. He called for an inquiry and stated that the occupied land should be restored if the allegations were found to be correct.
Members of the local Hindu community demanded administrative intervention to protect the religious character of the cremation ground, investigate the encroachment, and restore the property to its original status.
The incident has raised concerns among local residents regarding the protection of Hindu religious sites and heritage properties in the area.
10. Hindu Man Dies by Suicide After Mental Harassment and Pressure for Conversion by Muslim Wife
A Hindu man, Aakash Prajapati, from Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, died by suicide after consuming poison over mental harassment and pressure to convert to Islam by his wife and her family.
Aakash Prajapati had married Asma Khan, a Muslim woman, in an interfaith marriage. According to his family and his recorded statement before his death, disputes arose after the marriage over religion, with the victim alleging that he was repeatedly pressured to convert to Islam.
On 7 July 2026, Aakash consumed poison outside the Civil Lines Police Station in Vidisha. Before taking the step, he recorded a video message in which he stated that he was unable to bear the harassment and pressure to convert. He accused his wife Asma Khan, her son Aamir Khan, brothers Shahid, Shahrukh and Shadiq, father Liyaqat Khan, and mother Shaira Khan of pressuring him and abetting his suicide.
In the recorded message, Aakash that he was being forced to convert to Islam, threatened with legal action, and subjected to continuous mental harassment. He also that his wife demanded money and made other demands, including transferring his house in her name.
After consuming poison, Aakash was admitted to a hospital where he remained under treatment. He died on 9 July 2026 despite medical efforts.
Following his death, Aakash’s family that he had been continuously pressured and intimidated by his wife and her family members because he refused to change his religion. They demanded action against those responsible and requested an investigation into the coercion for conversion.
Police initiated an investigation into the matter, including examination of the audio recording, statements of family members, and other evidence. The charges against the accused were under investigation and had not been judicially determined.
11. Hindu Woman Brutally Attacked with Machete by Muslims in Feni, Bangladesh
A 44-year-old Hindu woman, Shilpi Kuri, was attacked with a machete (dao) by a group of Muslim attackers following a dispute over government-leased land in the Kazirbag Ashrayan Project area under Feni Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh.
According to the complaint filed at Feni Sadar Police Station, Shilpi Kuri had obtained a government lease for abandoned government property in the area, where she had planted banana trees and other vegetation. On 7 July 2026, Fatema Akter, a resident of the same area, along with several Muslim men, entered the leased land, cut down the banana trees, and attempted to take them away.
The victim objected to the act, following which Fatema Akter attacked her multiple times with a machete, causing injuries to different parts of her body. Shilpi Kuri was taken to Feni Sadar Hospital, where she received medical treatment.
According to the complaint, the attackers claimed that the land belonged to them and told the victim that she had no right over it. The victim also that she was threatened not to return to the property in the future.
The matter was reportedly taken before local residents for mediation, but Fatema Akter did not participate in the settlement process. After approaching the police, Shilpi Kuri and her family received death threats, creating fear and insecurity among them.
The victim later submitted a written complaint at Feni Sadar Police Station seeking legal action against the accused. The case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
12. Minor Hindu Boy Hacked to Death by Muslim Youths After Dispute Over Football Match
A 17-year-old Hindu boy, Prasenjit Biswas, was hacked to death by a group of Muslim youths following a dispute over a local football match in the Baruipur area of South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.
According to the complaint, Prasenjit’s team had won a local football match a few days before the incident, following which an altercation took place between him and a group of local Muslim youths. The dispute escalated after one of Prasenjit’s friends, who had an earlier disagreement with the same group, asked him to accompany him to resolve the matter.
On 7 July 2026, Prasenjit and his friend reached the Palpara area, where an argument broke out between the two groups. During the confrontation, the accused attacked Prasenjit with sharp weapons, repeatedly assaulting him and slitting his throat. His friend was also injured while attempting to save him.
The injured victims were taken to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared Prasenjit dead. His friend was admitted for treatment.
Following the incident, Prasenjit’s family members and local residents gathered at the hospital and protested, demanding justice. Tension increased when the accused took shelter inside a police outpost at the hospital, following which police intervened to control the situation.
Police arrested five accused persons identified as Mayukh Sardar, Jaganna Sardar, Sairul Mondol, Sahin Mondol and Ripan Bazikar in connection with the murder. Police stated that the attack was linked to the earlier dispute over the football match and that further investigation into the case was underway.
13. Hindu Temple’s Sanctity Desecrated in Adoni, Andhra Pradesh
The sanctity of a Shiva temple in Adoni, Andhra Pradesh, was desecrated after a man smoked a cigarette inside the temple premises by lighting it from the sacred deepam placed before the Shivalinga.
The accused was identified as Vadde Eeranna, a resident of Veerupapuram in Adoni. According to reports, he entered the Shiva temple located near Santana Anjaneya Swamy Temple and approached the shrine where the sacred lamp was kept before the Shivalinga.
The accused used the flame of the deepam to light a cigarette and smoked it inside the temple premises. A video of the incident showed him bending near the shrine, lighting the cigarette from the temple lamp, and leaving while making a remark referring to “Om Namah Shivaya”. The video was recorded by his accomplices and later circulated on social media.
Following the circulation of the video, several Hindu organisations submitted a complaint at One Town Police Station in Adoni, demanding the arrest of Vadde Eeranna and strict legal action against him.
The incident led to protests among members of the Hindu community, who condemned the desecration of the Shiva temple and sought action against the accused. Police were approached for further investigation into the matter.
14. Muslim journalist accused of mocking Hindu faith through derogatory remarks on Hindu deities
A Muslim journalist in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, was accused of making derogatory remarks against Hindu deities and temples, leading to complaints from members of the Hindu community.
The accused, Hussain Sheikh, a reporter for a local newspaper, stated, “Hindu gods are stones. Why do you go to temples? Why do you give donations? Instead, help living people.” The remarks drew objections from Hindu organisations, who that they hurt religious sentiments.
Following the remarks, the Sakal Hindu Samaj submitted a memorandum at Jaisinghpur Police Station seeking legal action against Hussain Sheikh. Representatives of various Hindu organisations and public figures were present during the submission.
After demands for action, Hussain Sheikh issued a written explanation and publicly apologised. In his apology, he stated that he did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments and assured that his statements would not hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. A complaint was registered in connection with the incident.
15. Hindu temple desecrated after miscreant throws human faeces and urine inside premises
The sanctity of a Hindu temple was desecrated in Chhitipur village under Dinara Police Station area of Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, after a man identified as Satish Jatav threw human faeces and urine inside the temple premises, including the Mata Mandir and Bhagwan Shiv shrine.
According to the complaint, temple pandit Omprakash, who was staying in a room inside the temple complex, noticed Satish Jatav, a resident of the same village, moving towards the temple at around 4:30 am. He later found human faeces and urine scattered inside the temple premises.
Following the incident, villagers gathered at the temple and lodged a complaint with the police, demanding strict action against the accused. Police arrested Satish Jatav for questioning. While he was being taken to the police station, his family members attempted to stop the police vehicle, but the police proceeded with the investigation.
Dinara Police Station in-charge Ravindra Singh Kushwaha stated that police reached the temple after receiving information about the incident and began investigating the matter. During the investigation, the accused’s family claimed that he was mentally ill, and police stated that medical documents were being examined to verify the claim.
16. Hindu woman abducted and raped by Muslim man in Bangladesh, complaint filed
An 18-year-old married Hindu woman was abducted, held captive and raped for three days by a Muslim man in Shahpur village under Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh.
The accused was identified as 24-year-old Emon Mia, son of Rafiqul Islam, also known as Drazer Rafiq, a resident of Shahpur village. According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was taken away forcibly while returning home on 8 July after visiting a nearby market. She that she was made unconscious and later found herself on the fourth floor of a building in Nabinagar Sadar, where she was confined and repeatedly raped for three days.
The victim’s husband lives abroad, and the couple has a two-year-old daughter. After she went missing, her father lodged a General Diary at Nabinagar Police Station. Three days later, the victim was located and rescued by her family following information received about her whereabouts.
After her rescue, the victim filed a complaint of abduction and rape at Nabinagar Police Station. She also that individuals associated with the accused threatened and pressured her family to prevent them from pursuing legal action.
Nabinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Morshedul Alam Chowdhury stated that the matter was being investigated and that appropriate legal action would be taken if the allegations were established. Emon Mia has been identified as the accused in the case.
17. Hindu villagers offered religious texts and inducements for Christian conversion in Chandauli
In Itwa village under the Sakaldiha police station limits of Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh, Hindu villagers were targeted for religious conversion through inducements and distribution of Christian religious literature during a prayer meeting.
On 9 July 2026, police raided the prayer meeting following specific information and arrested six individuals who were conducting the gathering. More than 50 men and women were present at the location. An FIR was registered against the accused under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.
The arrested individuals were identified as Kamlesh Ram and Rajesh Maurya of Itwa village in Chandauli, Ajit Ram of Negura village in Dhanapur, Dheeraj Singh of Gaurhat village in Ghazipur, Guddu Ram of Nevada in Varanasi, and Dinesh Ram of Pahariya.
Police stated that the prayer meeting was being conducted at the house of Kamlesh Ram and that the accused were attempting to persuade attendees to convert to Christianity by distributing Christian religious texts and literature, preaching through microphones, and offering inducements.
During the raid, police recovered seven Bibles, around 200 religious pamphlets, approximately 50 Christian religious booklets, religious posters, microphones, a loudspeaker/home theatre system, mobile phones, a Maruti Suzuki Zen car, and two motorcycles from the premises.
During interrogation, the accused stated that they regularly organised prayer meetings where Christian literature and promotional material were distributed. Police also found that Ajit Ram had previously been arrested in connection with another unlawful religious conversion case registered at Dhina police station.
The police stated that the wider network connected with the operation was under investigation and that further legal action would be taken based on the findings.
The case status is recorded as arrested. The accused included six individuals, while more than 50 Hindu men and women present at the prayer meeting were identified as those targeted for conversion.
18. Muslim man attacks Hindu temple and vandalises consecrated idol in Panchagarh, Bangladesh
A Kali Mata temple in Jugikata village under Atoyari Police Station in Panchagarh district, Bangladesh, was attacked and vandalised by a Muslim man identified as Jakir Islam on 8 July 2026.
During the incident, the temple premises were vandalised and the consecrated idol of Mata Kali was desecrated, causing distress among members of the local Hindu community. The accused attempted to flee after the incident but was caught by local Hindus, who apprehended him while he was carrying the severed head of the damaged idol. He was later handed over to the police, who took him into custody.
The incident heightened concerns among local Hindus regarding the safety of their places of worship. It occurred amid repeated reports of attacks, vandalism, and desecration of Hindu temples and religious institutions in Bangladesh.
The attack was directed at a Hindu place of worship and a consecrated religious symbol. Hindu temples are considered sacred spaces where devotees worship deities and perform religious rituals, while consecrated idols hold deep spiritual significance among Hindus. The deliberate vandalism of the temple and desecration of the idol of Mata Kali caused harm to objects and spaces regarded as sacred by the Hindu community.

19. Muslim teacher accused of forcing Minor Hindu students to remove kalava and chant Islamic slogan
Five minor Hindu students of Ramkanda High School in Garhwa district, Jharkhand, were subjected to religious discrimination after an Arabic teacher, Mohammad Homaidullah, instructed them to remove their kalava (sacred thread), religious lockets and other Hindu religious symbols worn by them at school.
According to the students’ parents, the incident occurred during class when the teacher objected to the students wearing Hindu religious symbols. Students who questioned or resisted the instruction were scolded. Parents stated that some students were also pressured to chant the Islamic slogan “Allah-hu-Akbar”.
After returning home, the students informed their families, following which parents and local residents gathered at the school and raised objections against the teacher’s conduct. The matter gained wider attention after a video featuring five Hindu students circulated on social media. In the video, one student stated that after being reprimanded for wearing a kalava, he hid the sacred locket around his neck to avoid further scolding. Another student that the teacher regularly checked students to see whether they were wearing Hindu religious symbols.
Parents further that the teacher made derogatory remarks about Hindu beliefs, forced some students to consume cow dung, and physically assaulted students who resisted his instructions.
Following the complaints, the Garhwa district administration formed an inquiry team comprising education department officials. The team visited the school, recorded statements from the headmaster, teacher, students and parents, and examined relevant records. In the video, some children stated that they and their families had converted to Christianity and no longer followed Hindu religious practices such as temple visits, idol worship and Hindu festivals.
Some children stated that they had been taught that Hindu practices had kept them in darkness and that they had found a better path after converting to Christianity. They also claimed that they were encouraged to read Christian religious texts and were told that Jesus would solve their problems and illnesses through miracles.
The children stated that they no longer worshipped Hindu deities, performed murti puja, or celebrated festivals such as Holi. They also said that idols and images of Hindu deities from their homes were discarded and thrown into rivers.
During the interaction, some children made statements criticising Sanatan dharma and Hindu religious practices. One child stated that Hindus did not have religious books in their homes compared to Christians and expressed hatred towards Sanatan dharma. A minor Hindu girl in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was stalked, sexually assaulted and pressured to convert to Islam by a Muslim man identified as Sufian Khan. The incident came to light after the victim’s father filed a complaint at Kotwali Mandi police station.
According to the complaint, Sufian Khan had been repeatedly stalking the girl and threatened to kill her family if she resisted. The complaint also that the accused pressured the minor to convert to Islam against her will.
During the investigation, police added sections related to rape after examining evidence. Following directions from senior officials, Kotwali Mandi police arrested Sufian Khan. Police stated that the accused was originally from Maharajganj district and was residing on rent in New Ashok Nagar area of East Delhi.

According to the complaint, the accused contacted the girl through Snapchat around ten months before the incident using a fake profile with a Hindu identity. The two remained in contact, and the accused continued to conceal his actual identity while developing a relationship with the victim.
In January 2026, Mohammad Jassim Ansari travelled to Ghansali and stayed at the victim’s residence for around 10 to 15 days, presenting himself as a Hindu friend. Later, the victim travelled to Chandigarh and stayed at the accused’s residence for 10 to 12 days. According to the complaint, the accused later persuaded her to visit Chandigarh again in June 2026 by promising marriage, during which she stayed at his residence for another 20 to 22 days. The complaint that the accused sexually exploited her during this period while hiding his identity.
The victim later discovered that the accused was Muslim and had been posing as a Hindu throughout their relationship. After a confrontation on 4 July 2026 when the accused visited Ghansali, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint regarding the identity deception and sexual exploitation.
Later, a group of 25 to 30 local residents and members of Hindu organisations found Mohammad Jassim Ansari inside the victim’s bedroom. A crowd gathered at the spot and assaulted him before personnel from Ghansali Police Station reached the location, rescued him and took him into custody.
Following the incident, local Hindu organisations and the Vyapar Mandal observed a market shutdown in Ghansali and demanded strict legal action against the accused. Police initiated an investigation, and further legal proceedings were underway.

The matter was brought to the attention of authorities after Mathadhish Ritisagar Bharti, a resident of Rajadur and head of a local monastery, filed a complaint at Raunapar Police Station.
In his complaint, Ritisagar Bharti that the video contained insulting remarks against Bhagwan Shree Ram and other Hindu deities, which could disturb communal harmony. Based on the complaint, Raunapar Police registered an FIR against Jitendra Paswan on 8 July 2026 under relevant provisions of law.

She also that the accused threatened her family and assaulted her husband when he objected to the harassment.
According to the complaint submitted to the Superintendent of Police, the woman came into contact with a man employed as a railway guard before her marriage. She stated that the accused, identified as Gabbu, concealed his Muslim identity and presented himself as a Hindu, following which she developed a friendship with him. The woman that the accused assured her of marriage and established a physical relationship with her during that period.
The woman stated that she later discovered the accused’s actual identity and ended all contact with him. Around six years ago, she married another man and began living with her husband and children. However, she that the accused and his associate Adil continued to harass her.
According to the complaint, the accused had recorded intimate photographs and videos during their earlier relationship and used them to blackmail her. She that he threatened to circulate the material on social media and pressured her to leave her husband, convert to Islam, and marry him through nikah. She further that the accused threatened to abduct her if she refused to comply.
The woman also that the accused showed the intimate videos to her husband. When her husband confronted the accused regarding the harassment, Gabbu and Adil assaulted him at the railway crossing quarters where Gabbu was posted. The complaint stated that they physically attacked him, attempted to strangle him, and issued threats to kill him.
Fearing for her safety and that of her family, the woman approached the Superintendent of Police and sought legal action against the accused persons. Police initiated an investigation into the allegations and stated that further action would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

The student’s mother stated that the issue remained unresolved and that the school later handed over a Transfer Certificate (TC) to her daughter without providing an explanation. After the family refused to accept it, a copy of the TC was sent to them through WhatsApp.

Hearing her screams, relatives and neighbours attempted to chase the vehicle but could not rescue her.
The family lodged a General Diary (GD) at the local police station and appealed for immediate action to rescue the minor girl and arrest those involved. Several days after the incident, the victim remained missing, and her family continued searching for information about her whereabouts.
Local residents and members of the Hindu community expressed concern over the incident and supported the family’s demand for the safe recovery of the girl and legal action against those responsible. Police proceedings in the matter were underway at the time of reporting.
The accused, Mohammad Ripon Islam, along with his unidentified accomplices, were named as the perpetrators in the case. The case status was recorded as a complaint filed.
28. Hindu family assaulted and robbed by armed gang in Feni, Bangladesh
A Hindu family was assaulted and robbed during an armed gang attack at their residence in Maheshwar village under Char Chandia Union in Sonagazi Upazila of Feni district, Bangladesh.
The incident took place on the night of 9 July 2026 at the newly constructed house of Haradhan Das, a Hindu expatriate. The victims included the family of his son, Sabuj Das, who is employed in Oman.
According to available details, the gang forcibly entered the house late at night, assaulted family members, and looted bags containing gold ornaments, cash, and other valuables. The attack left the family members traumatised and created fear among local residents.
Following the incident, locals demanded the identification and arrest of those responsible and urged the Sonagazi Upazila administration and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action. No official statement from the authorities was available at the time of reporting.

29. Hindu Villagers targeted for conversion Through Monetary Inducements
In Sainjana village under the Mirganj Police Station area of Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, a Christian preacher attempted to persuade Hindu villagers to convert to Christianity by offering monetary benefits, employment assistance, marriage-related support and making claims of miraculous healing.
According to a complaint filed by Ankit, son of Khubkaran and a resident of Sainjana village, a religious gathering was organised at the house of Gajendra, son of Chhedlal, in the village on July 9, 2026. During the gathering, Prempal Jatav, a resident of Bhudasi village under the Sheeshgarh Police Station area, introduced himself as a Christian preacher and addressed the villagers present there.
The complaint that Prempal made derogatory remarks about Hindu deities and stated that Hindu Devi and Devta did not exist. It further that he attempted to persuade villagers to embrace Christianity by promising employment, financial assistance, marriage-related benefits and a monthly payment of Rs.15,000 after conversion. He also claimed that Christian prayers could cure serious illnesses, remove the effects of black magic and evil spirits, and resolve personal problems.
The complaint stated that some villagers who refused to accept the promotional material and declined to convert were insulted for following the Hindu faith. A video of the gathering later surfaced on social media, in which local youths that the preacher had promised financial benefits, employment and healing through conversion, while also making remarks against Hindu beliefs.
Following the incident, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad reached Mirganj Police Station and demanded legal action against the accused. Acting on the complaint, Mirganj Police registered an FIR against Prempal Jatav under relevant legal provisions and initiated an investigation. Station House Officer Ravi Kumar confirmed that the case had been registered and stated that further action would be taken based on the investigation findings.
30. Hindu Medical Student Brutally Tortured and Murdered by Fellow Muslim Classmate
A 22-year-old Hindu medical student, Savariya Basanth from Alappuzha, Kerala, was brutally tortured and murdered by her Muslim classmate, Sadarul Anam, in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, after she refused his demands to convert to Islam.
According to Savariya’s family, she was subjected to severe assault before her death. Her body bore multiple injuries from head to toe, which the family stated indicated prolonged physical torture. The accused was arrested by Uzbek authorities following the incident.
The incident came to light after Savariya’s family lost contact with her and approached her university. According to her maternal uncle Janeesh, who travelled to Uzbekistan to bring back her body, Savariya was pressured by the accused to convert to Islam. Fellow students also informed the family that the accused had been pressuring her to convert, but she had refused.
Savariya had enrolled at Bukhara State Medical University in December last year and was studying alongside Sadarul Anam. Both resided in the same hostel. According to her family, she had completed her first semester with good academic results and remained in regular contact with her mother until communication stopped on the day of the incident.
The family disputed the initial account that a fatal head injury caused by a laptop was the sole cause of death and sought a second postmortem examination after her body was brought back to Kerala. The second postmortem was conducted at Alappuzha Medical College, following which her funeral was performed at her residence in Pallippad according to Hindu rituals.
After returning from Kuwait, Savariya’s father Basanth filed a complaint before the Alappuzha District Police Chief seeking a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death. Acting on the complaint, Haripad Police registered a case against Sadarul Anam and initiated an investigation. Police stated that the accused remained in custody in Uzbekistan and that further legal steps would be taken after completion of the required legal procedures.
31. Hindu Villagers Targeted for Conversion to Christianity
Several Hindu villagers in Sunair village under the Nirmand subdivision of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, were targeted for conversion to Christianity by three individuals, including a self-proclaimed Christian pandit. The accused attempted to persuade villagers to convert by offering money, making derogatory remarks about Hindu deities and applying continued pressure.
According to a complaint filed by 26-year-old Jiya Lal, a resident of Sunair village, Kamlesh Negi, a self-proclaimed Christian pandit, along with Geeta Devi of Nirmand and Prem Chand of Pujarli, entered his residence on July 10, 2026. The complaint that the accused attempted to persuade him to convert to Christianity by offering monetary benefits and making derogatory remarks about Hindu deities.

Based on his complaint, police registered a case against Kamlesh Negi, Geeta Devi and Prem Chand under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act and initiated an investigation.
Superintendent of Police, Kullu, Madan Lal Kaushal, stated that the complaint would be investigated from all angles and further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
32. Two Minor Hindu Girls Lured and Targeted for Sexual Exploitation by Four Muslim
In Howly, located in Barpeta district of Assam, two minor Hindu girls aged 13 and 14 were lured and targeted for sexual exploitation by four Muslim youths who concealed their religious identity by using fake Hindu names.
The incident came to light when the two girls were found at a roadside dhaba in Howly. According to reports, the youths had befriended the girls while presenting themselves as Hindus.
Local Hindu residents became suspicious after noticing the girls with the accused and intervened. During the intervention, they apprehended one of the accused, identified as 20-year-old Amidur Islam. According to local residents, he was attempting to sexually exploit one of the girls.
Police were informed and reached the spot, following which both girls were rescued and the accused was taken into custody. An investigation was initiated, and efforts were underway to trace the remaining three accused.
33. Centuries-Old Saraswati Idol Vandalised for Fourth Time at ASI-Protected Hindu Temple
An ancient idol of Mata Saraswati at the Saraswati Temple within the historic Trikuteshwara Temple complex in Gadag, Karnataka, was vandalised by unknown miscreants. The incident marked the fourth reported attempt to damage the same idol in the past two years.
According to reports, local resident Suryanarayan Nargundkar, who lives near the temple complex, stated that the idol was found damaged. He further that Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials attempted to conceal the damaged portion by applying black paint over it.
Nargundkar stated that similar attempts to vandalise the idol had taken place since 2024, and that the latest attempt succeeded. He also stated that although an ASI Group D staff member was deployed at the site, the staff member was not present on the night of the incident on July 10, 2026, and called for round-the-clock security at the temple complex.
Raju Khanappanavar condemned the incident and stated that the temple dated back to the 8th century and had historical records of earlier damage in the 16th century.
Gadag Town Police visited the temple and assessed the situation. Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadeesh stated that since the idols were historical artefacts kept under ASI supervision, it was for ASI officials to determine whether the idol had been defaced. He added that police would register a case and begin an investigation after receiving a formal complaint from the ASI.
34. Multiple Hindu Women Sexually Exploited and Blackmailed by Muslim Gym Trainer
In Saraswati Nagar of Davanagere district, Karnataka, multiple Hindu women were targeted and sexually exploited by Mohammed Ismail, owner and trainer of Power Fitness Gym.
According to reports, Ismail developed personal relationships with several Hindu women who attended his gym, including women from professional backgrounds. It was that he installed hidden cameras in the gym’s dressing rooms and recorded private videos and photographs of the women without their knowledge.
The victims were blackmailed with threats of making the recordings public unless they complied with his demands and paid money. Reports stated that more than ten Hindu women were targeted, and one woman from a reputed family attempted suicide after fearing that her private videos would be leaked.
Following the allegations, Hindu organisations including Shri Ram Sena and Hindu Jagran Vedike staged protests against the gym and locked its premises. They demanded strict action against the accused.
BJP Davanagere district president Rajasekhar N. Nagappa also demanded legal action against Ismail and urged community leaders to take action against him, stating that the incident could disturb social harmony.
Police initiated action in the matter, and the accused was arrested. Further investigation into the allegations was underway.
35. Muslim Man Made Derogatory Remarks Against Hindu Deities
In Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, a Muslim man identified as Amar Khan made objectionable remarks on social media targeting Hindu deities and Hindu women, leading to protests by Hindu organisations.
According to the complaint, Amar Khan posted derogatory comments about Bhagwan Shri Ram and Hindu women through his social media account, which hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.

36. Minor Hindu Girl Lured into Relationship, Abducted and Raped by Muslim Man
A 17-year-old Hindu girl from Ajmer, Rajasthan, was lured into a romantic relationship and abducted by a Muslim man identified as Salim, also known as Syed Sailab.
After the girl travelled to Vadodara, Gujarat, to stay with her aunt, Salim followed her there. He contacted her, persuaded her to meet him outside, abducted her and took her across several states, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, keeping her away from her family.
During her abduction, Salim sold the girl’s gold jewellery and mobile phone. He also demanded Rs.1 lakh from her family for her release and threatened to kill her mother.
Following complaints from the family, officers from Akota Police Station in Vadodara traced the girl to Rajasthan and rescued her. Salim escaped after noticing the approaching police officers.
After her rescue, the girl’s statement was recorded and police initiated proceedings to register a rape case against Salim. Her mother also lodged a complaint with Ajmer Police regarding the abduction, ransom demand, sale of the girl’s belongings and threats against her.
37. Minor Hindu Girl Lured and Abducted by Muslim Man
A 16-year-old Hindu girl went missing from her home in Gopalganj district, Bihar, on July 11 after Muslim youth Junaid Ansari visited her residence the previous evening. Gold and silver jewellery and approximately Rs.50,000 in cash were also found missing from the house.
Junaid had known the minor through her aunt, who lives in Dumariya village in Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, where Junaid was a neighbour. During the girl’s visits to her aunt’s residence, Junaid came into contact with her and gave her a mobile phone to remain in contact. After the family learnt about their communication, they counselled the girl and sent her back home.
On the evening of July 10, Junaid visited the girl’s residence. The following morning, the family found the 16-year-old missing along with the jewellery and cash. The family searched for her but could not trace her.
The girl’s father later learnt that Junaid had remained in regular telephone contact with his daughter. He travelled to Dumariya with his sister and approached Junaid’s family. They initially stated that Junaid had returned home but later said they did not know where he had gone with the girl. They assured the family that they would bring him back and return the girl but failed to do so.
The girl’s father named Junaid Ansari, his father Bismillah Ansari and his mother Baby Khatoon in his complaint, alleging that they had taken away his minor daughter. He expressed apprehension that she could be forced into nikah, subjected to sexual exploitation or trafficked.
An FIR was registered at Gopalpur Police Station on July 22 under Sections 137 and 96 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police visited Junaid’s residence during the investigation but could not ascertain his whereabouts. The Hindu minor girl had not been recovered as of the latest available information.

Arif Al Khabir, convener of Students-Workers-People Establishing Justice, targeted Hindus during a speech at a rally in Dhaka, calling for their removal from Bangladesh’s state institutions and demanding restrictions on organisations associated with the Hindu community.
Addressing the rally on July 11, 2025, Khabir demanded that Hindus be removed from the secretariat, police, administration, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and armed forces, claiming that such measures were necessary to protect Bangladesh’s sovereignty and national security. He also called for a ban on India’s intelligence agency RAW, ISKCON, Hindu Mahajote and Sanatan Vidyarthi Sangathan, portraying them as threats to Bangladesh.
During the speech, Khabir described Hindus as agents of India and that members of the Hindu community sought India’s intervention whenever they faced difficulties. Referring to an earlier incident involving the cutting of a banana tree near a temple in Mirpur, he claimed that arrests following the incident had taken place under pressure from India.
Khabir further that Bangladesh had suffered because of Hindus and called for them to be overthrown. Videos of the speech subsequently circulated on social media, prompting demands for action against him.
Khabir had previously faced public scrutiny in January 2025 following an attack on indigenous student protesters outside the National Curriculum and Textbook building in Dhaka. He and Md. Abbas were arrested in connection with the incident. Police stated that the two had not sustained injuries despite appearing with bandages, while photographs later emerged showing them applying fake bandages.
39. Hindu Religious Sentiments Hurt as Local Youth Abuses Hindu Community
In Jamunapur Chauraha on Suchi Road in the Unchahar area of Raebareli district, Uttar Pradesh, a local youth uploaded and circulated a video on social media containing abusive and derogatory remarks targeting Hindus and Sanatan dharma.
In the video, the youth referred to Hindus as “gaddar” (traitors), associated them with serious criminal offences and made objectionable remarks against the Hindu faith.
The video triggered outrage among local residents and Hindu organisations, who condemned the remarks and demanded legal action against the accused. They stated that the comments had hurt Hindu religious sentiments and could disturb communal harmony and public peace.
After the video circulated widely on social media, Unchahar Police took cognisance of the matter and initiated an investigation. Kotwal Om Prakash Rai stated that the police were examining the video and that further legal action would follow based on the investigation.
40. Hindu minor girl kidnapped by Muslim man; family threatened with her religious conversion
A 15-year-old Hindu girl was kidnapped in the Karari area of Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh. She had gone to the fields and did not return home. The family later learnt that Salman, a resident of Guwara Tayyabpur village, had lured and abducted her.
The girl’s parents went to Salman’s residence after learning about the abduction. During the confrontation, Salman’s mother and younger brother abused them with casteist slurs and threatened them with death. They also said that the minor would be converted to Islam and married to Salman.
The girl’s father lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered under provisions relating to kidnapping, the SC/ST Act and other applicable sections. Police were attempting to trace the minor girl and arrest the accused.
The victim was a 15-year-old Hindu girl. The accused was identified as Salman, a Muslim man from Guwara Tayyabpur village. Salman’s mother and younger brother were also named in the complaint.
41. Hindu pandit threatened with death and pooja obstructed by Muslim man
In Jaora town of Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, Hindu temple pandit Nand Kishore Mali and local devotees were threatened, abused and prevented from offering prayers at the Hanumanganj temple by a Muslim man identified as Mohammad Guddu and others. The pandit stated that Guddu repeatedly abused him and devotees, threatened him with dire consequences and warned him against performing pooja at the temple. He said the harassment had continued for several years, creating fear among him, his family and devotees.
Members of the Sarv Hindu Samaj that Guddu and others repeatedly dumped waste on the temple premises to discourage devotees from visiting. They also that women associated with the group threatened devotees with lathis, while children abused the pandit and worshippers. The pandit and local residents further that Guddu regularly stopped Hindus from offering prayers and claimed that performing pooja caused illness. They also that temple land had been encroached upon and functions were organised on the encroached area.
Following the incident, members of the Sarv Hindu Samaj submitted a memorandum at the City Police Station in Jaora, addressed to the CSP and Station House Officer. They demanded police protection for Nand Kishore Mali, registration of an FIR against those responsible for the threats and obstruction of worship, and removal of the encroachment from the temple premises. The group warned of agitation if action was not taken.
The identified victim was temple pandit Nand Kishore Mali, while other Hindu devotees were also affected. Mohammad Guddu was identified as the principal accused, with other individuals also to have participated in the incidents. At the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued by the police or administration.
42. Hindu woman lured, sexually exploited and blackmailed by Muslim man
In Silchar, Assam, a Hindu woman from Guwahati that a Muslim man, identified as Andhan Hussain Majumdar alias Azmal, posed as a Hindu to enter into a relationship with her. The woman, who worked with the railways in Guwahati, stated that the accused contacted her through Instagram and later met her in Guwahati.
The victim that the accused secretly recorded intimate videos of her without her consent while she was unconscious. After she discovered his religious identity and ended the relationship, she stated that he uploaded some of the videos on Facebook and Instagram and threatened to circulate more unless she married him and continued a physical relationship with him.
The woman travelled to Silchar and sought assistance from Bajrang Dal members. They stated that they located the accused at Rangirkhari Point, where he attempted to force the victim into a vehicle. They intervened, detained him and handed him over to the Rangirkhari Police Outpost. The accused was subsequently taken into custody by Cachar Police and questioning was underway.
The victim also that the accused’s wife was involved in the incident and that he was involved in drug trafficking. No immediate official statement from the accused or police regarding these allegations was available. The matter remained under investigation.
The case involved one adult Hindu woman as the identified victim. The accused, Andhan Hussain Majumdar alias Azmal, was identified as the principal accused, while his wife was also by the victim to have been involved.
43. Hindu girl deceived and pressured to convert by Muslim man
In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu girl was deceived into a relationship by a Muslim man, Farhan Shan, who introduced himself as “Golu Solanki” and claimed to be Hindu. The two connected through Snapchat and later met at Gandhi Hall, where the woman learned his actual identity after he received a phone call addressing him as Farhan.
The complaint stated that after she confronted him about concealing his identity, Farhan pressured her to convert to Islam. She subsequently sought assistance from Bajrang Dal office-bearer Tannu Sharma, following which members of the organisation apprehended Farhan and handed him over to the MG Road police.
During examination of Farhan’s mobile phone, police found objectionable photographs and videos involving several young women. It was that he had persuaded multiple women to engage in inappropriate video calls, secretly recorded them and retained the recordings. A card resembling a Vishwa Hindu Parishad Bajrang Dal identity card, bearing the name “Golu Fakir” and identifying him as an office-bearer, was also recovered from his possession.
Police registered an FIR against Farhan Shah under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act. He was taken into custody, and police began examining his mobile phone and other digital evidence to determine the extent of his activities and identify any additional victims.
The identified victim was one adult Hindu woman. Farhan Shan alias Farhan Shah was identified as the accused. The case remained under investigation.
44. Hindu youth stabbed to death by Muslim man after Instagram photo with his cousin sister
A 22-year-old Hindu man, Gautam Maurya, was stabbed to death by Muslim man Sameer Idrisi and three associates in Kant, Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, following a dispute over an Instagram photograph of Gautam with Sameer’s cousin sister. Gautam, who worked at a bicycle repair shop, had uploaded the photograph on July 12, after which Sameer demanded that he remove it. Another confrontation took place on July 15.
On July 31, after closing his shop, Gautam was riding towards the fields when Sameer asked him for a lift. Near Dilawarpur village, Sameer attacked him with a knife, while three associates who were waiting nearby joined the assault. Gautam sustained 16 deep knife wounds to his head, shoulders, abdomen and back and died in the attack.
Villagers apprehended Sameer while his three associates escaped. Police later took all four accused into custody. During the investigation, police that Sameer had planned the attack, knew Gautam’s daily routine and had positioned his associates at the location before luring him there. His mobile phone reportedly contained an Instagram status posted shortly before the murder. While in police custody, Sameer attacked a constable with the recovered knife and attempted to escape, following which police shot him in the leg and re-arrested him. He subsequently confessed to the murder during interrogation.
A video circulated on social media in which Sameer stated that he killed Gautam because he had done something wrong to his sister. The killing led Gautam’s family and local residents to block the Kant-Jalalabad road, demanding strict action against the accused, demolition of their houses and financial compensation for the victim’s family. Police initiated legal proceedings against the accused for murder, attacking a police officer and other relevant offences.
45. Hindu organiser of proposed Ram statue arrested and sentenced to one year in Bangladesh
Haridas Chandra Tarani, a Hindu organiser involved in the construction of a proposed 81-foot Ram statue at Palashbari in Gaibandha district, Bangladesh, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with a money laundering case and later sentenced to one year in prison by the Mymensingh Joint District and Sessions Judge (Finance and Loan) Court.
The CID that Tarani was involved in suspicious financial transactions and registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. During the proceedings, the prosecution sought further custodial interrogation, while defence counsel Shyamal Kumar Roy sought bail and argued that Tarani had been falsely implicated. Tarani denied wrongdoing and said that donations received from devotees for the construction of a temple and Ram statue could not be treated as a crime.
The Ram statue project had faced sustained opposition from Islamist organisations and sections of the Muslim community since it was first announced in 2022. Protesters demanded that the construction be stopped, the proposed idol be removed and Tarani be arrested. The temple committee subsequently announced that construction would be suspended, citing the need to maintain communal harmony. Tarani was arrested on similar charges in November 2022 and later secured bail before leaving Bangladesh. He returned after Sheikh Hasina left the country in August 2024.
After the project resumed in 2026, opposition to the statue again intensified, with Muslim groups organising protests and demanding its removal. According to the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, extremist groups had opposed the project for a prolonged period and created hostility over the proposed statue. The Council condemned Tarani’s arrest and said action should instead have been taken against those responsible for inciting communal hostility.
On July 21, 2026, Tarani was sentenced to one year of imprisonment after being produced before the Mymensingh court. The case remained linked to the legal proceedings arising from the money laundering offences.
46. Hindu patients and families targeted for Christian conversion inside Pune government hospital
At Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, a Christian couple, Sunil Maleperamil Varghese and Pratibha Sunil Varghese, approached Hindu patients, their family members, attendants and Hindu Warkaris near OPD No. 72 and attempted to persuade them to embrace Christianity.
According to the FIR, the couple distributed Christian magazines and pamphlets titled Krupasanam, containing testimonies claiming that people had recovered from illnesses, found employment and had children after praying to Jesus. They encouraged Hindu patients and their attendants to pray to Jesus for recovery and portrayed Christianity as superior to Sanatan dharma while denigrating Hindu beliefs.
The activities were noticed by Rishikesh Kishor Pande, a Pune resident, who objected and subsequently lodged a complaint with the police. Based on his complaint, Bund Garden Police registered an FIR against Sunil Maleperamil Varghese and Pratibha Sunil Varghese. Police have initiated an investigation into the attempts to convert Hindu patients and their families.
46. Hindu ritual in private train saloon falsely equated with namaz in public
On July 12, a video of a Rudrabhishekam being performed inside a moving train circulated on social media, prompting claims that Indian Railways was applying different standards to Hindus and Muslims. The ritual was performed inside a VIP saloon coach and was compared with instances of namaz being offered inside regular public passenger coaches.
Several social media users, including Mohammed Zubair and Sudhanshu Yadav, questioned whether the ceremony had been permitted and raised concerns regarding railway rules, safety and preferential treatment. Some posts also claimed that the coach was being used by officials associated with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Northern Railway subsequently clarified that the ritual had taken place inside a privately chartered saloon coach booked commercially through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. The coach was booked on July 8 for Rs.3,08,580 and was attached to Train No. 12926, Paschim Express, for a journey from New Delhi to Mumbai on July 10.
Northern Railway stated that passenger safety, security and punctuality were maintained during the journey and that no injury or operational issue was reported. It further clarified that the pandit seen performing the Rudrabhishekam was inside the privately booked saloon coach.
47. Sacred idol of Hindu deity Beeralingeshwara vandalised in Dharwad
A sacred idol of Bhagwan Beeralingeshwara, a revered local form of Bhagwan Shiv, was desecrated by unidentified miscreants in Amblikoppa village of Dharwad taluk during the night of July 12. The idol had been installed on the outskirts of the village around 14 years ago and was regularly worshipped by local Hindu devotees.
The incident triggered outrage among Hindu residents, particularly members of the local Kuruba community, for whom Beeralingeshwara is regarded as the village deity. Hundreds of villagers gathered at the site and staged a protest on July 13, demanding the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible.
BJP leader Manjunath Makkalageri condemned the incident and urged the police to register a suo motu case, stating that the desecration could disturb social peace. Dharwad Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya visited the site and inspected the damaged idol. Police registered an FIR and launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.
Security was also deployed in the village to maintain peace and public order. The perpetrators remained unidentified.
48. Ancient Hindu temple vandalised; Shivalinga broken in Ranchi
An ancient Hindu temple in Sangrampur village of Ranchi, Jharkhand, was vandalised by unknown miscreants. The incident came to light on July 12 when devotees arrived for daily prayers and found the Shivalinga inside the temple broken. Signs of vandalism were also found on the premises.
Following the incident, a large number of villagers gathered at the temple and demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible. Police reached the spot, brought the situation under control and assured villagers that an impartial investigation would be conducted.
Kanke police examined CCTV footage from the temple and surrounding areas and questioned local residents to identify the suspects. Police deployment was increased in the area as a precautionary measure. The situation remained tense but under control, and the administration appealed to residents to maintain peace and ignore rumours.
49. Hindu man pressured for religious conversion under guise of exorcism by Islamic clerics
A Hindu man was pressured to convert to Islam after visiting the Syed Salar Hans shrine in Shahjahanpur village of Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, seeking relief through an exorcism ritual. According to the complaint, he initially paid Rs.500 for the ritual but was later asked to pay Rs.5,000 and told that complete relief would only be possible if he converted to Islam. The complaint also that visitors to the shrine were compelled to wear burqas.
Police booked four named clerics associated with the shrine under relevant legal provisions and initiated an investigation. Authorities said they would examine the complainant’s statement, the accounts of individuals associated with the shrine, and other available evidence before taking further legal action.
Following registration of the case, members of Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organisations protested at the shrine, demanding strict action against those accused. Additional police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.
The case involves one adult Hindu male victim. Four male Islamic clerics were named as accused in the complaint.
The incidents reported between July 6 and July 12, 2026, present a wide range of allegations affecting Hindu individuals, families, minors, women, temples and religious institutions across India and Bangladesh. The cases included attacks on places of worship, desecration and vandalism of idols, theft of temple property, physical assaults, abductions, sexual exploitation, blackmail, threats and attempts to pressure individuals into changing their religion.
A significant number of cases involved minors. Reports from Bangladesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Assam and Uttarakhand the abduction, sexual exploitation, stalking or targeting of Hindu girls. In several cases, families that religious conversion, forced marriage or concealment of religious identity formed part of the circumstances. Police action ranged from registration of complaints and FIRs to arrests and continuing investigations, while some missing minors had not been recovered according to the latest information provided.
Religious conversion allegations formed another recurring category during the week. Complaints from Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar described use of monetary inducements, employment promises, marriage-related benefits, religious literature, healing claims and pressure to abandon Hindu practices. Several such cases resulted in police action under applicable religious-conversion laws, while some allegations remained subject to investigation or lacked information about an official inquiry.
The reported attacks on Hindu temples and religious symbols also underline the importance of protection of places of worship and heritage sites. From the vandalism of ancient idols in Karnataka and Jharkhand to the desecration of temples in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bangladesh, the incidents affected sites that local Hindu communities regard as religiously significant. In several cases, police investigations were initiated, while perpetrators remained unidentified.
The week also included allegations of derogatory speech and social-media content targeting Hindu beliefs, as well as allegations concerning threats and obstruction of worship. At the same time, one incident involving a train-based Hindu ritual was clarified by Northern Railway as having occurred inside a privately chartered saloon coach, demonstrating the importance of distinguishing verified facts from claims circulating on social media.
Taken together, the incidents reported during the period demonstrate the varied nature of cases involving Hindu individuals and institutions, from criminal allegations against individuals to disputes concerning religious property, conversion, worship and public expression.
