Two youths were arrested in Thiruvananthapuram, on September 29, in connection with the security lapse in Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan’s convoy which occurred in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, on September 27. The bike-borne youths entered the route of the Vice-President’s convoy.
Ashkar and Nadirsha, the arrested youths, are Vallakkadavu natives. Investigation is also going on regarding the security lapse. The incident is reported from Kovalam Junction, Tiruvananthapuram, while the Vice-President was returning to the airport after an official programme in Balaramapuram. The bike was coming to Kovalam from Tiruvallam.
According to the police, the youths did not stop the bike despite the attempt of the security officials to stop it. Then the security officials conveyed the information to the police and accordingly, the youths were arrested.
According to the police, both were drunk. Police say both were overspeeding and causing a threat to human life. According to the reports, there was no valid insurance protection for the bike. The FIR reportedly contains the charge that they, the youths, had violated the direction of the public servants.
Investigations are going on to find out if security lapses took place in the convoy of the Vice-President. The police will also investigate how the bike broke the security ring and entered the route of the Vice-President’s convoy.
The incident speaks out that the security lapse in the programmes of the VVIPs is a never-ending story in Keralam.
Youth Congress workers breached the security ring of Home Minister Amit Shah on September 26, during his visit to Kollam.
Now, the Union Home Ministry has sought Keralam Home Ministry’s explanation regarding the issue. Thereafter, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha workers have been staging black flag demonstrations against the United Democratic Front (UDF) ministers wherever they go.
Meanwhile, state minister O.J. Janeesh told that the black flag demonstration against Amit Shah was the decision of the national leadership of the Youth Congress. He justified it, saying that it is a natural democratic protest. In the same breath, he said that Yuva Morcha’s black flag protest is not democratic.
Later, he removed the video of the black flag demonstration (against Amit Shah) from his social media account. There is unconfirmed news that Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan instructed him to remove it. But the minister rejected it.
