SIVASAGAR: Under an initiative of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), and with support from 15 other social organisations in Sivasagar district, free school uniforms, notebooks, pen bundles, bags, and other educational materials have been distributed to 7,000 students in flood-affected areas. So far, these materials have been distributed across more than 100 educational institutions.
As part of the programme, school uniforms were distributed among 230 students. A total of 120 pairs were distributed at Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan in Betbari, 40 pairs at Jayrapar Middle Assamese School, 30 pairs at Koamara Sandikai Primary School and 40 pairs at Devbil Banuwa Primary School.
On the coming Monday, uniforms will be distributed among 120 students at Rajbari Primary School and Jayrapar Janakalyan Primary School.
The recent floods have caused extensive damage to the homes, agricultural land and daily lives of numerous families in the region, affecting the education of students as well. The initiative has been launched with the objective of boosting students’ morale and ensuring continuity in their education during the disaster. The initiative has received a positive response from local residents.
Teachers of the concerned schools expressed their gratitude to the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and Seuji Basundhara Bahumukhi Cooperative Society for supporting the uniform distribution programme.
Earlier, with the cooperation of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, the Seuji Basundhara Bahumukhi Cooperative Society had also distributed cattle feed, paddy seedlings and other assistance to farmers in various flood-affected areas.
Local residents have appreciated the efforts of the cooperative society for standing with flood-affected farmers and students and demonstrating social responsibility during the disaster.
