New York: A man carrying a Palestinian flag ran onto the field at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx at exactly 9:11 p.m. on September 11, during a Yankees-Mets Subway Series game held on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The incident occurred during the seventh inning as the stadium hosted a game commemorating the 9/11 anniversary and remembering those killed in the World Trade Center terror attack.

The man was identified by the NYPD as 38-year-old Kelly Marcucci, who is facing misdemeanor charges of interference with a professional sporting event and trespassing. Police said Marcucci jumped from the stands onto the baseball field and ran into centerfield, where security personnel quickly tackled him. Video from Yankee Stadium showed the incident unfolding at 9:11 p.m., while fans responded with chants of “USA!” after he was brought down.

The field incident came on September 11, a date closely associated with the 9/11 terror attacks and the World Trade Center attack in New York. The Yankees-Mets Subway Series game was part of the city’s broader observance of the 25th anniversary of September 11, with ceremonies and tributes taking place at Yankee Stadium.

Facebook post before Yankee stadium incident

Hours before the Yankee Stadium incident, at around 4:30 p.m. on September 11, Marcucci had posted a lengthy message on Facebook addressing capitalism, Zionism, Saudi Arabia and the 9/11 attacks. The post also referred to several prominent public figures, including US President Donald Trump and podcast host Joe Rogan.

Marcucci later posted a short video from inside Yankee Stadium shortly before he entered the field. In the video, he showed his personalised “K. Marcucci” jersey while seated among spectators. The front of the jersey carried the words “No Kings”, a slogan widely associated with opposition to President Trump.

According to information on his social media accounts, Marcucci describes himself as a journalist and “spiritual tactician” and is a graduate of Stony Brook University. His social-media presence includes posts concerning political commentators, conspiracy theories, Jeffrey Epstein and other political subjects.

One post discussed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani ahead of the 2025 mayoral election, describing the contest in terms of political and spiritual “energy” being installed over New York City.

His Instagram account also contains a link to an inactive OnlyFans profile, which Marcucci said he created “as a joke”. His profile describes his political identity as “revisionist-Marxist” and says the core values of that expression are important to him.

9/11 anniversary game honours victims

The September 11 game at Yankee Stadium also featured a ceremonial first pitch by married couple Brielle Saracini and Sean McGuire, both of whom lost their fathers in the 9/11 attacks. The pair met at a camp for children whose parents were killed in the September 11 attacks.

Saracini has a longstanding connection with Yankees legend Derek Jeter, who was present at the Yankee Stadium game. Her father, Victor Saracini, was the pilot of one of the aircraft hijacked during the September 11 attacks. After his death, Brielle Saracini wrote a letter to Jeter.

Recalling the occasion, Jeter said during a news conference that when Saracini was invited to Yankee Stadium, it was difficult to know what to say. He said he tried to make the occasion special for her and make her feel as comfortable as possible.
