NEW DELHI: Under the Sports Quota Recruitment 2026, the Income Tax Department has announced a government job opportunity for meritorious sportspersons. The Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr.CCIT), Pune Region, will begin the registration for 85 vacancies of Stenographer Grade-II, Tax Assistant and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS). The recruitment notification was issued on August 10, 2026, and eligible candidates can apply online from August 15 to September 15, 2026. The recruitment is for the sportspersons who have achieved the prescribed level of excellence in recognised sports and meet the required educational and age criteria for the respective posts.

The opportunity is particularly significant for young athletes who want to build a stable career while making use of their sporting achievements. It is advisable that candidates should carefully check the prescribed sports eligibility certificate, educational qualification, age limit and other conditions before submitting the application.

Income Tax Recruitment 2026 Vacancy Details

The Income Tax Department Pune Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 covers 85 posts across three cadres. The post-wise vacancy distribution is as follows:

Among the 85 vacancies, 49 are earmarked for male sportspersons and 36 for female sportspersons, across the sports listed in the notification.

Which Sports Are Eligible for Income Tax Sports Quota Recruitment?

The Income Tax Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 is open to meritorious sportspersons from 17 recognised sports and games. The eligible sports in this include athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, bridge, carrom, chess, cricket, hockey, kabaddi, parasports, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, wrestling and yogasana. Candidates should check the sport-wise vacancies, sports eligibility, required achievements and certificate requirements in the official notification before applying. Eligibility Criteria for Income Tax Sports Quota Recruitment 2026?

The Income Tax Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 is only for meritorious sportspersons who meet the eligibility criteria in the official notification. Applicants must be Indian citizens, have participated in a recognised sport or game, and submit the required Sports Eligibility Certificate from the competent authority.

Income Tax Sports Quota Eligibility: Order of Preference

The selection of meritorious sportspersons will be based on their sporting achievements. Candidates who have represented India in international competitions will get the highest preference, provided they have the required approval from the concerned sports authorities.

The next preference is given to candidates who have represented a State or Union Territory in Senior or Junior National Championships or National Games and have secured a medal or position up to third place. Candidates with medals in Senior National Championships will be preferred over those with achievements at the Junior level.

Candidates who have represented a University in recognised inter-university competitions and secured a medal or position up to third place will also be considered. Eligible achievements in specified Khelo India competitions, including Youth, Winter and Para Games, are also covered under the recruitment criteria.

Educational Qualification for Income Tax Recruitment 2026

The educational qualification varies according to the post.

Stenographer Grade-II – Candidates applying for Stenographer Grade-II should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board or University.
Tax Assistant – For the Tax Assistant post, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification.
Multi-Tasking Staff – Candidates applying for MTS should have passed Matriculation or an equivalent examination.

Note: Candidates should also fulfil the prescribed sports eligibility requirements in addition to the educational qualification.

Income Tax Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Age Limit

The age limit is different for the three posts. As on January 1, 2026, the age requirement is:

  • Stenographer Grade-II: 18 to 27 years
  • Tax Assistant: 18 to 27 years
  • Multi-Tasking Staff: 18 to 25 years

Age relaxation applicable to meritorious sportspersons will be provided according to the relevant government rules. The recruitment information specifies relaxation of up to five years, with the applicable extended relaxation for SC/ST candidates.

Income Tax Sports Quota Salary 2026

Selected candidates will receive salary according to the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

  • Stenographer Grade II: Pay Level 4 – Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100
  • Tax Assistant: Pay Level 4 – Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100
  • Multi Tasking Staff: Pay Level 1 – Rs 18,000 to Rs 56,900

Income Tax Sports Quota Application Fee

The application fee for the recruitment is Rs 200, payable through the prescribed online payment mode. Candidates should retain proof of payment and ensure that the application is successfully submitted within the specified period.

Income Tax Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The selection of candidates under the Sports Quota will primarily take into account their sporting achievements and the order of preference prescribed for meritorious sportspersons. Candidates applying for posts that require specific skills will also have to qualify the relevant skill test.

  • For Stenographer Grade-II, candidates are required to qualify the prescribed stenography test, which involves dictation and transcription.
  • For Tax Assistant, shortlisted candidates have to qualify the Data Entry Skill Test, with the prescribed speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour.

Along with this, candidates should satisfy all conditions which are applicable to the post for which they are seeking recruitment.
