A jailer posted at Rajasthan’s Ajmer Central Jail has been suspended after a video surfaced purportedly showing three convicted prisoners communicating with Nafees Chishti, who is also a convicted accused in a case linked to the 1992 Ajmer sex scandal.

Rajasthan Director General of Prisons Ashok Rathore ordered the immediate suspension of jailer Saddam Hussain pending a departmental inquiry.

Officials said the jail administration has also initiated the process of registering an FIR against Hussain and others at Civil Lines police station in Ajmer.

During his suspension, Hussain will report to Sriganganagar Central Jail, according to the suspension order.

Convicts Used Jailer’s Mobile Phone

The video, which reportedly surfaced recently, is believed to have been recorded in November 2025. It shows prisoners Syed Tariq Chishti, Syed Tausif Chishti alias Chikki and Fakhar Jamali speaking to Nafees Chishti over a video call.

According to officials, the call appears to have been made using the mobile phone of jailer Saddam Hussain. The conversation allegedly took place from inside the jailer’s office.

Nafees Chishti was outside the prison during the call. Two other unidentified people were also reportedly visible with him.

Officials said the circumstances surrounding the call raised serious questions about the security and communication protocols at the prison, particularly because the use of unauthorised mobile phones by inmates is prohibited.

Call Believed To Have Taken Place In November 2025

The prison department is examining the exact date of the video call.

Based on the date on which the three inmates were convicted and a statement attributed to Syed Tausif Chishti, officials believe the call may have taken place between November 20 and November 30, 2025.

The three inmates were convicted by an Ajmer court on November 7, 2025, in a case involving assault, grievous injury, attempt to murder and weapons-related offences.

Another report said the three men were sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with a 2014 attack on Haji Syed Bilal Hussain Chishti, with the conviction subsequently upheld by the High Court.

Nafees Chishti Was Convicted In Ajmer 1992 Case

Nafees Chishti is a convicted accused in an Ajmer case involving rape and conspiracy. The 1992 Ajmer sex scandal had involved allegations of sexual exploitation and blackmail of young women in the city.

The video call has therefore drawn particular attention because it allegedly connected prisoners inside a high-security correctional facility with a person convicted in a case that had once triggered widespread outrage in Rajasthan.

The presence of two unidentified individuals alongside Nafees Chishti during the video call is also being examined.

Jailer Was Holding Superintendent’s Charge

Officials said the alleged call appeared to have taken place inside the jail superintendent’s office.

Saddam Hussain was reportedly holding additional charge of the superintendent’s duties until December 15, 2025.

The prison department is now examining how the inmates were able to access a mobile phone and why the call was allegedly facilitated from an official area of the jail.

The department is also investigating whether other prison personnel were aware of or involved in the incident.

Prison Department Orders Wider Probe

The Rajasthan Prisons Department said allowing prisoners to communicate with people outside the prison using a prohibited mobile phone would constitute a serious breach of prison rules.

Officials said the immediate suspension was necessary to prevent any possibility of interference with the departmental inquiry.

The department is also examining the role, if any, of other jail officials and staff members.

Ajmer Central Jail Superintendent Anteshwar said an inquiry was underway and that statements and other evidence related to the incident were being collected. He said appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.

Of the three prisoners seen in the video, Syed Tariq Chishti and Fakhar Jamali were released in July 2026.

Syed Tausif Chishti was still lodged at Ajmer Central Jail when the controversy surfaced. He has since been shifted to Bharatpur Central Jail.

The transfer is among the administrative measures taken by the prison authorities following the emergence of the video.

FIR Being Registered

The jail administration has also moved to lodge a formal complaint at Civil Lines police station in Ajmer.

An FIR is being registered against the jailer and others in connection with the incident. The criminal investigation will examine how the prohibited mobile phone was allegedly made available to the prisoners and whether any official knowingly facilitated the communication.

The case has raised fresh questions over mobile-phone control and security protocols inside Rajasthan’s prisons. The department has maintained that it routinely takes measures to prevent illegal mobile phones from entering and being used inside jails.

The alleged involvement of a jail official, however, has added a serious dimension to the matter and prompted both departmental and police investigations.
