Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has welcomed the Union Government’s decision to ban the highly hazardous herbicide Paraquat Dichloride. BKS Akhil Bharatiya Mahamantri Mohini Mohan Mishra described the move as a major milestone towards protecting the health of millions of farmers and citizens across the country.
He said that Bharatiya Kisan Sangh has been consistently working towards the vision of poison-free farming, healthy, prosperous and self-reliant farmers, and self-sufficient villages. In this direction, the ban on a carcinogenic chemical like Paraquat Dichloride is the first significant step. He urged the government to also prohibit other herbicidal chemicals such as Glyphosate at the earliest, keeping in mind the health of farmers and the general public.
The acceptance of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh’s long-standing demand, he said, demonstrates that the Union Government is fully committed to addressing farmers’ concerns and safeguarding their welfare.
The use of Paraquat Dichloride as a herbicidal chemical had increased rapidly for drying the moong crop before harvest, raising concerns that the consumption of moong had become harmful to human health.
The decision, he added, will provide fresh impetus to cow-based organic, natural, and safe agricultural practices in the country, ensuring the protection of both future generations and India’s agricultural land.
Welcoming the government’s decision as visionary, sensitive, and in the larger public interest, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh affirmed that it remains fully committed to supporting every initiative aimed at making Bharatiya agriculture safer and more prosperous.
