KOTA: On the occasion of National Students’ Day, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a floral tribute to Swami Vivekananda and a campus cleanliness drive at Government College, Kota. During the programme, the statue of Swami Vivekananda, which was already in an extremely dilapidated condition, was accidentally damaged, causing deep anguish among students and ABVP karyakartas.

ABVP stated that the statue was originally installed during the tenure of former ABVP Students’ Union President Vishal Joshi and had long served as a source of inspiration for students. The organisation said it had previously informed the college administration about the deteriorating condition of the statue and sought its restoration. Following the incident, ABVP met the Principal and demanded the immediate installation of a new and grand statue. It also noted that the college administration, in its official statement, confirmed that the statue had been in a severely damaged condition prior to the incident. Calling Swami Vivekananda an enduring inspiration for the youth, ABVP condemned what it termed the Congress-backed NSUI’s attempt to politicise the issue and create unrest on the campus.

ABVP State Secretary, Jitendra Lodha said that,”The Congress-backed student organisation NSUI is attempting to derive political mileage through false, misleading and baseless allegations. The college administration itself has officially clarified that the statue was already in an extremely dilapidated condition. Despite this, a deliberate attempt is being made to suppress the facts and tarnish the image of ABVP and its workers. tomorrow also, under the leadership of the Mahila Congress District President, outside elements allegedly attempted to create disorder inside the college campus. ABVP has submitted a complaint to the competent authorities and demanded strict and impartial action against those responsible. There can be no compromise on the dignity of Swami Vivekananda, student interests or the academic atmosphere of educational institutions. ABVP will continue to pursue this issue until a new and grand statue is installed and appropriate action is taken against those responsible for creating unrest on the campus.”

ABVP Kota Mahanagar Secretary Deepti Mewara said that, “Outside elements were allegedly brought into the college campus, resulting in disruption of the academic atmosphere. Students were subjected to abusive behaviour, verbal abuse and physical pushing, and one student sustained injuries during the incident. Attempts are being made to give the entire issue a political colour and mislead students. ABVP has always worked for the preservation of the ideals of great personalities, nation-building and student welfare. We once again urge the college administration to install a new and grand statue of Swami Vivekananda at the earliest so that this centre of inspiration for students is restored with due dignity.”
