SAHARNPUR: Security agencies have been put on alert following the emergence of another case linked to suspected terrorist activities in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. In a major operation, the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), with the assistance of the Uttar Pradesh ATS and Special Task Force (STF), detained a 38-year-old man in the town of Nanauta.
Investigative agencies claim the man was allegedly in contact with a Pakistan-based handler; his social media and mobile activities had been under surveillance for a long time. The operation has sparked widespread discussion in the area, and security agencies have launched an intensive investigation into the matter.
Stir Caused by Joint Operation
A sudden commotion arose in Nanauta town on Friday evening when a Bhopal ATS team, accompanied by officers from the UP ATS and STF, arrived at the local police station. After briefing local police about a suspect, the joint team conducted a raid in the town’s Mohalla Afghanan. During the operation, 38-year-old Naeem Abdullah, son of Mustafa, was taken into custody. This sudden move by security agencies caused a stir across the region. Initially, locals were puzzled as to why such a large security force had arrived in the area; news of the man’s detention emerged later.
Suspicion of Contact with Pakistani Handler
According to preliminary information, investigative agencies suspect that Naeem Abdullah was in contact with a Pakistani handler. Reports indicate that the Bhopal ATS had been monitoring his social media accounts and online activities for quite some time. The agencies decided to take action based on specific inputs gathered during the investigation.
Examination of Mobile Phones and Religious Literature
During the raid, the investigative team seized mobile phones belonging to the accused and three of his family members. Following a preliminary check, three phones were returned, while Naeem Abdullah’s mobile phone has been retained for further technical analysis. Additionally, some religious literature and books were recovered from the young man’s room and have been seized by investigative agencies. However, officials clarified that the nature of the recovered material and its connection to the case would only become clear after an investigation. Currently, all digital and documentary evidence is being examined.
Suspected Link to a Case Registered in Bhopal
According to investigative agencies, the name of Naeem Abdullah had previously surfaced as a co-accused in a case registered in Bhopal. It is reported that this action was taken in connection with the investigation of that same case. Officials believe that the links regarding the young man’s alleged foreign contacts and digital activities could be connected to that case. However, the agencies have not yet disclosed all aspects of the matter. Investigating officers are actively gathering technical evidence and probing potential networks across various states.
Simultaneous Operations Across Multiple States
Officials from the Bhopal ATS have indicated that this operation is not limited to a single individual. Reports suggest that simultaneous raids and investigative drives are being conducted in several states across the country. For this reason, agencies are currently refraining from making detailed information about the case public. Officials state that sharing information during this sensitive stage of the investigation could impact the entire operation; therefore, only essential facts are being confirmed at this time.
Buzz in the Area and Public Surprise
News of Naeem Abdullah’s arrest sparked widespread discussion in the town of Nanauta. Local residents mentioned that the young man mostly stayed indoors and rarely participated in social activities. Neighbors noted that while they often saw him alone, no one had any inkling that security agencies were monitoring his activities.
Police Confirm Action Taken
Nanauta Station House Officer (SHO) Gyaneshwar Bauddh confirmed the joint operation, stating that teams from the Uttar Pradesh ATS, STF, and Bhopal ATS detained an individual named Naeem Abdullah from the Afghanan neighborhood of the town. Subsequently, the team took him into custody and departed. Investigative agencies are currently questioning the young man and examining his digital network, contacts, and alleged foreign connections.
Prior to this, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had detained a young man named Mohammad Faraz in the Kazi Camp area of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, near Nanhe Bi ki Masjid, on suspicion of involvement in anti-national activities. Preliminary investigations reportedly yielded significant leads from his mobile phone, including alleged jihadi literature, foreign contacts, and suspicious online activities. Agencies are now conducting a thorough probe into his potential network, foreign connections and alleged radical activities.
Mohammad Faraz used to work at a doctor’s clinic. Although he led an ordinary life, his activities drew the attention of security agencies after certain online contacts and digital behaviors were flagged as suspicious. Investigative agencies state that they are examining the link between his daily life and his alleged activities to determine when and how he came into contact with the suspicious network.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was allegedly preparing to travel to Afghanistan to undergo specialized training. It was also discovered that PDF files containing alleged jihadi documents, sent from Pakistan, were recovered from his mobile phone; these documents are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
