Gurugram: Four Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on June 10 in connection with a robbery in which they allegedly held the family members of a retired Army colonel hostage inside their residence in Sector 23 and looted valuables worth over Rs 15 lakh on June 4, police said.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a team from the Palam Vihar Crime Branch, led by Sub-Inspector Manoj, tracked the suspects to Bajghera. According to police, the accused attempted to flee when confronted and jumped into an underpass on the Dwarka Expressway. The fall left all four with multiple fractures.
The suspects have been identified as Mohammad Khairul Arman (52), Mohammad Maman (35), Mohammad Hilal (25), and Mamo Khan (26), all of whom are Bangladeshi nationals.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma said the four are currently receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A and will be formally arrested once they are discharged.
“Preliminary investigation suggests the accused conducted reconnaissance of several houses in Sector 23 before targeting the retired Army officer’s residence. They will be questioned further to recover the stolen valuables,” Sharma said.
ACP Naveen Sharma said Arman was the alleged leader of the gang and had been living illegally in India since 2004. According to police, the group operated from a hideout in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar and is suspected of involvement in at least four other armed robberies in the Palam Vihar area of Gurugram.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest other members of the gang as well as their relatives who may have assisted them.
Investigators further alleged that after carrying out three to four robberies, the gang would cross into Bangladesh with the stolen valuables to avoid detection. They would then reportedly re-enter India illegally and return to Delhi to plan and execute fresh robberies and burglaries.
Officials said Mohammad Hilal has 12 criminal cases registered against him in Delhi, including charges of dacoity, theft, and illegal possession of arms. Arman is said to have eight cases involving murder, dacoity, robbery, theft, and provisions of the Gangster Act registered in Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Mohammad Maman allegedly faces three cases related to robbery, dacoity, and theft in Delhi and Gurugram.
Police said the robbery occurred between 2:09 am and 3:15 am on June 4, when the accused allegedly gained entry to the first floor of retired Army Colonel C.L. Jain’s residence by cutting through a window grill. Investigators said the suspects held the colonel’s son, Vikas Jain, daughter-in-law, Rakhi Jain, and their 11-year-old daughter hostage before looting cash, jewellery, and other valuables.
At the time of the incident, Colonel Jain, his wife Sudha Jain, another son Aseem Jain, and grandson Siddhant Jain were asleep on the ground floor and were unaware of the robbery, police said.
