‘The problem was Congress, not Hindus’: PM Modi’s blistering attack, lists India’s milestones in last 12 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on the Congress party while addressing the NDA meeting and slammed them for hindering the growth of Bharat and blaming the Hindus for the same

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a new record by completing 4,399 consecutive days in office, becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. An NDA meeting held at Bharat Mandapam to mark this occasion also became the focal point of a major ideological discourse regarding the politics, economy and development models of the past decade.

In his address at this significant meeting, the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on the Congress, bringing back into the spotlight a term that had long symbolized the sluggish pace of the Indian economy: the “Hindu Growth Rate.” PM Modi stated that while the Congress was responsible for the failures in development, the stigma was unfairly pinned on the country’s Hindu population. For years, the nation was led to believe that development in India was naturally slow and this mindset was labeled the ‘Hindu Growth Rate.’

He remarked that this was, in reality, an attempt by the Congress to mask its own economic failures; furthermore, it served as an indictment of India’s majority population and its cultural identity. The Prime Minister noted that deficiencies in policy, intent and decision-making capabilities were wrongly attributed to religion and society. He argued that the slow growth rate was not caused by the country’s culture, but rather by the prevailing governance system and political leadership of that era. Consequently, he rebranded the ‘Hindu Growth Rate’ as the ‘Congress Growth Rate,’ asserting that the real issues were administrative incompetence and a lack of political will.

2014: Claiming the Dawn of Change

Modi identified the year 2014 as a decisive turning point in India’s political and economic transformation. He stated that since 2014, India has broken free from that mindset and system, achieving a new momentum in development. According to him, the government has focused on the ground-level implementation of schemes over the past 12 years, thereby accelerating the pace of development. 250 Million People Lifted Out of Poverty: Government’s Major Achievement

The Prime Minister highlighted the fact that 250 million people have risen above the poverty line as one of his government’s greatest achievements. He stated that this figure proves the government’s policies are moving in the right direction. According to him, the improvement in the living standards of the poor is not merely an economic achievement but also a sign of social transformation; individuals who were poor until recently are now becoming part of the middle class. The government’s responsibility extends beyond lifting people out of poverty to ensuring they do not slip back into it. With this vision in mind, tax relief, healthcare security and other amenities have been expanded for the middle class.

New Economic Strategy Centered on the Middle Class

The Prime Minister noted that India’s middle class is evolving rapidly, and its aspirations are growing. Keeping this in view, the government decided to make income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free. He asserted that initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, GST reforms and affordable health insurance schemes have directly benefited the middle class. He described today’s Indian middle class as a key engine of the country’s economic progress; consequently, a major objective of government policy is to enhance their purchasing power, security, and opportunities.

Targeting the Congress Party with Development Statistics

In his speech, the Prime Minister cited various statistics to draw comparisons between the current administration and previous governments. He pointed out that while there were 74 airports in the country in 2014, that number has now risen to over 160. Similarly, the expressway network has expanded from approximately 1,000 kilometers to 6,700 kilometers.

He noted that while metro rail services were previously available in only five cities, more than 20 cities are connected today. Defence exports have surged from Rs 700 crore to Rs 23,000 crore. Highlighting progress in mobile manufacturing, ethanol blending, and the semiconductor industry, he stated that India is now transitioning from being an importer to a manufacturer. Modi raised the question that if such significant changes are possible within 12 years, why did this not happen for decades? According to him, this is the difference visible between the Congress’s development model and the NDA’s development model.

The Politics of Scams vs. Decisive Governance

The Prime Minister accused the Congress regime of entangling the country in scams worth thousands of crores of rupees. He stated that after 2004, India had become trapped in a phase of instability and corruption; political and administrative crises, rather than development, had become the main topics of discussion. In contrast, Modi described his government as decisive and result-oriented. He remarked that when governance is driven by clear intent and the spirit of putting the nation first, taking major decisions becomes possible. According to him, the NDA government adopted this very approach and placed development at the core of its agenda.

India Must Surpass the World, Not Just Match It

In this significant address, the Prime Minister also presented a vision for the future. He stated that India’s goal is no longer merely to match the rest of the world but to move a step ahead. Citing a projected growth rate of 7.7 percent for 2025-26, he noted that India is delivering a strong economic performance despite global instability. Ambitious targets have been set in the sectors of green energy, renewable energy and nuclear energy; the goal of achieving 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity is part of this ambitious vision.

‘Nation First’ as the Foundation of Success

Modi stated that for his government, the country has always come before the party. He described ‘Nation First’ as the guiding principle of his government’s functioning. According to him, when national interest is prioritized over political interests, even the most difficult decisions become possible. He termed the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ as the collective resolve of 1.4 billion Indians. He observed that every citizen today has embraced the dream that India will emerge as one of the world’s leading powers in the coming years.

Expressing gratitude to NDA allies for the honor bestowed upon him, the Prime Minister remarked that the opportunity to serve ‘Maa Bharati’ for such a long period is a special blessing from the Almighty. He stated that for him, the people embody the divine, and public life has been a medium of dedicated service rather than a pursuit of power. Modi remarked that the love, affection and blessings of the country’s 1.4 billion citizens constitute his greatest strength. He attributed this achievement to the collective efforts and aspirations of the nation’s citizens.
