Thiruvananthapuram: A controversy has erupted at GR Public School in Neyyattinkara after principal Shamna Beegum was terminated by the school management over allegations that she had invited individuals suspected of having terror links to the school premises. The management has also filed a complaint before the Child Rights Commission, alleging that students and teachers were subjected to harassment by the principal.

The management terminated Shamna based on various reports alleging links to terror groups and involvement in terror-related activities.

According to the school management, she had conducted several meetings with Islamist radicals at the school quarters where she and her family resided. Shamna Beegum was terminated based on these allegations. The matter is currently under investigation by the relevant agencies.

Shamna Beegum has strongly denied all allegations, describing them as false and part of an attempt to defame her and her family. Speaking to the media, she claimed that she was removed from service without prior warning and that the accusations surfaced following an anonymous complaint sent to various authorities, including the CBSE and the Neyyattinkara Police Station.

Shamna Beegum approached the Kerala State Commission for Minorities against her termination by the school management. However, the Commission forwarded the complaint to the Chief Secretary. Commission Chairman A. Abdul Rasheed stated that allegations relating to terrorist links do not fall within the Commission’s jurisdiction.
