LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh has recorded its highest ever electricity supply, outperforming all other states, including Maharashtra, in meeting peak demand during the ongoing summer season. According to official data from the State Load Dispatch Centre, Uttar Pradesh successfully met a record peak electricity demand of 31,824 MW on May 24 at around 10:29 pm, marking not only the highest supply in the state’s history but also the highest peak power met by any state in the country so far this year.
By comparison, Maharashtra supplied 29,463 MW during the same period. Earlier in 2025, Uttar Pradesh had already crossed its previous peak benchmark of 31,486 MW, recorded in the early hours of June 11, indicating a steady rise in power demand and improved system capacity.
Round-the-clock monitoring amid heatwave conditions
Despite severe heatwave conditions driving up consumption, Uttar Pradesh authorities have maintained uninterrupted supply across most regions. Power supply levels remained consistently high through the night of May 24-25, with readings showing 29,933 MW at 1 am, 30,569 MW at 3 am, and 29,573 MW at 5 am. Even during daytime fluctuations, demand was effectively managed, including 27,392 MW at 10 am and 29,616 MW in the afternoon hours of May 25. Officials said that the system was kept stable through continuous load balancing and real-time monitoring by the State Load Dispatch Centre and distribution networks.
The state-owned utility Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) confirmed that supply was maintained for nearly 24 hours in major urban centres, industrial zones, district headquarters, and tehsil areas. Even in Bundelkhand, a region traditionally facing supply challenges, interruptions were limited to just 22 minutes.
Rural areas reportedly received 22 to 22.5 hours of electricity, exceeding the scheduled roster of 18 hours. This is a major improvement in service delivery.
UPPCL Director (Distribution) Gyanendra Dhar Dwivedi said that the continuous supply was ensured across key sectors including agriculture, industry, and urban households. Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal said that teams across the power sector were working in “war-footing mode” to ensure uninterrupted supply in line with government directions. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has consistently emphasised on strengthening the electricity infrastructure, reducing outages, and expanding access as part of UP’s development agenda.
Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma said that development as a milestone. He stated that Uttar Pradesh has now emerged as the state with the highest electricity availability in India. He acknowledged that minor local disruptions may still occur due to technical or environmental factors but highlighted the round-the-clock efforts of field staff in restoring the power supply quickly. He also appealed to citizens to recognise the efforts of power sector workers, who continue to operate under extreme summer conditions to ensure stable electricity access across the state.
The record peak power supply shows that electricity demand has increased due to extreme heat, growing industries, and agricultural needs. At the same time, it also highlights that Uttar Pradesh is now better able to handle high demand because of improved power infrastructure and more efficient grid management.
