LUCKNOW: University of Lucknow has introduced new vocational papers inspired by the teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. This will help students to learn life management skills, emotional balance, ethical decision-making, and personality development alongside their regular academic studies. Under the new curriculum, vocational papers titled “Shrimad Bhagavad Gita for Holistic Wellbeing” and “Shrimad Bhagavad Gita for Navigating Contemporary Challenges” have been included. Lucknow University officials believe that the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita can help students deal with stress, uncertainty, competition, and modern-day challenges more effectively.

The initiative is being seen as part of a broader effort to promote holistic education, where students are not only trained academically but are also guided in developing mental strength, leadership qualities, discipline, and emotional intelligence. The courses are expected to focus on practical applications of the Gita’s teachings in everyday life rather than limiting the subject to spiritual or religious discussions.

According to academic sources, the papers will discuss themes such as self-management, duty and responsibility, leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making under pressure, and maintaining balance during difficult situations. Experts who are associated with the programme say that these principles are highly relevant even in today’s fast-changing and stressful world. Through these papers, Lucknow University wants to create a more balanced educational environment that supports the overall personality development of students. With rising concerns regarding student stress, anxiety, and lack of emotional resilience, several institutions across Bharat have started exploring Indian knowledge systems and classical texts as tools for character building and mental wellness.

History of relation between Lucknow University and Bhagwat Gita

University of Lucknow has been associated with Bhagavad Gita based educational initiatives for several years to promote value-based and holistic learning. In 2020, the university launched an online Bhagavad Gita certificate course titled “Discover Yourself” for faculty members in collaboration with the ISKCON Youth Forum. The course focused on stress management, self-discipline, leadership, and personality development through the teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.

In August 2021, Lucknow University further strengthened this initiative by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ISKCON Youth Forum. Under the agreement, ISKCON was given responsibility for designing Bhagavad Gita-based courses, conducting classes, providing trained faculty, and organising workshops, seminars, and counselling sessions for students.

Continuing its focus on value-based education, Lucknow University has now added new vocational papers like “Shrimad Bhagavad Gita for Holistic Wellbeing” and “Shrimad Bhagavad Gita for Navigating Contemporary Challenges” to its curriculum. The inclusion of Bhagavad Gita based vocational courses also aligns with the spirit of the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education emphasis on integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into higher education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The policy encourages institutions to combine modern learning with India’s intellectual and cultural heritage. With this step, University of Lucknow has joined a growing number of educational institutions exploring the role of Indian philosophical traditions in shaping a more value-oriented and holistic education system for the future.
