BHUBANESWAR: Emphasising the larger purpose of public employment, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that a government job is not merely a means of livelihood but a unique opportunity to serve the people. He made these remarks while distributing appointment letters to newly recruited candidates at the 15th State-Level Recruitment Fair held in Bhubaneswar.
Organized by the Odisha government, the 15th Recruitment Fair-2026 witnessed the distribution of appointment letters to a total of 4,623 candidates across various departments. The event was held at the Kalinga Stadium, where senior ministers and officials were also present.
Congratulating the newly appointed candidates, the Chief Minister said that government officers and employees represent the real face of governance and administration. He stressed that the primary objective of the state government is to ensure that welfare schemes and services reach the last person in society. “If you carry forward this spirit of service, not only will the dignity of government service be upheld, but you will also earn the trust of the people,” he said.
According to official data shared at the event, appointments were made across seven key departments. The School and Mass Education Department accounted for the largest share, with 4,113 employment . The Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department recruited 154 candidates, while the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department appointed 143 individuals. Similarly, 77 candidates were recruited in the Steel and Mines Department, 70 in the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, 52 in the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, and 14 in the Skill Development and Technical Education Department.
Highlighting the government’s focus on employment generation, the Chief Minister noted that since June 2024, a total of 44,082 Govt employment have been provided in the state. In addition, over 92,000 employment opportunities have been created in the private sector during the same period. He described this achievement as a result of the government’s commitment and systematic planning toward empowering the youth.
Providing guidance to the newly recruited employees, the Chief Minister outlined five key principles for effective public service. First, he urged them to maintain integrity and stay away from corruption, reiterating that the government follows a zero-tolerance policy against corrupt practices. Second, he emphasized that in a democracy, people are supreme, and officials must listen to citizens with empathy and work toward resolving their grievances.
Third, he advised that personal ideologies should not obstruct official duties and that employees must function in alignment with government policies. Fourth, he highlighted the importance of punctuality and timely execution of responsibilities. Lastly, he called upon employees to maintain politeness and professionalism in their conduct, warning that inappropriate behavior could damage both personal reputation and the image of the government.
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister wished all newly appointed candidates a bright future and urged them to uphold transparency, honesty, and respect toward women as integral aspects of their work culture.
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, who attended the event as a distinguished guest, also extended his congratulations to the recruits. He stated that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Odisha is witnessing significant expansion in employment opportunities for youth. He encouraged the appointees to consider public service as their highest duty.
State Minister for Fisheries, Animal Resources Development and MSME Gokulananda Mallik remarked that the appointments are not just positions but responsibilities toward public service. Meanwhile, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia described the recruitment as an opportunity to serve the state’s population of over 45 million people.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond noted that the continuous organization of recruitment fairs reflects the government’s growing administrative capacity and efficiency.
During the event, several newly recruited candidates expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for ensuring a transparent and merit-based recruitment process. Among those present were Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik and Industries and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, along with senior government officials.
