RAIPUR: In a major success for security forces in Chhattisgarh, Maoist commander Darsu Sori surrendered before police in Kanker under the North Bastar region, officials confirmed on April 20.

According to Kanker Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakecha, Sori, who carried a bounty of ₹8 lakh, was an active member of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of Maoists. He held the position of a Platform Party Committee Member (PPCM) in Company Number Five and operated under the North Bastar Division Committee.

During his surrender, Sori handed over one AK-47 assault rifle along with electronic communication devices, indicating his active involvement in Maoist operations. Officials said that PPCM-level cadres typically play a crucial role in logistics, coordination, and execution of activities such as planting landmines and assisting armed units.

Police sources revealed that Sori decided to surrender to return to the mainstream of society, influenced by ongoing outreach efforts and rehabilitation initiatives by the state. His surrender is expected to provide valuable intelligence inputs, with officials already working to establish contact with other active Maoist cadres based on information shared by him.
