Guwahati: Amid high-voltage Assembly election campaigns, a shocking alleged ‘Love Jihad’ case involving a government employee in Assam has stunned people in the Barak Valley.
The southern Assam district of Hailakandi witnessed yet another such incident, where a government employee was arrested for allegedly trapping a woman using a fake identity and later harassing her physically and mentally.
The arrested Love Jihadi, Haider Ali, a driver in the District Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Office in Hailakandi, created a fake Facebook account as Rahul and sent friend requests to multiple Hindu girls of the district.
34-year-old Haider Ali trapped a Hindu girl with his fake Hindu identity and established a relationship with her. After establishing a fake relationship with his fake Hindu identity, Haider Ali took many videos and photographs of their private moments and started blackmailing the victim, the Hindu girl.
Hailakandi police sources said that Haider had been working at the Information and Public Relations office in Hailakandi for several years as a driver. However, he created a fake Facebook ID as ‘Rahul RDX’ and trapped the victim, a Hindu girl.
Haider threatens the victim girl to make her videos and photographs viral if she refuses his demands. The love jihadi exploited the victim physically at his will, threatening to make her private photos viral. Police said that Haider is married and the father of two children. The victim is not the only Hindu girl. Haider is in conversation through social media. Police found that he is maintaining a relationship with many Hindu women, posing himself as a Hindu bachelor. Police have recovered several objectionable videos and photos from his mobile phone and pen drive.
He was produced before the court this evening and has been remanded to one day of police custody for interrogation by the Hailakandi court. A police official stated that further electronic evidence is being searched for, and the investigation is ongoing. This is not the first case of Love Jihad in Hailakandi district, but a planned love jihad case by an Islamist government employee shocked the citizens. Concerned people are raising questions on the security of Hindu women in the Muslim-majority district of Southern Assam. They demand exemplary punishment of the offender so that this type of heinous crime doesn’t take place. It should be mentioned that the BJP has promised to bring a Unified Civil Code (UCC) in its manifesto, and PM Modi has also announced that the BJP will implement UCC in Assam once they form the next government in the state.
