Fact Check: India TV Debunks viral claims after its logo used to spread RSS-BJP rift narrative ahead of Assam elections

After false and misleading content was circulated on social media using the name of India TV, the channel has issued a clarification debunking the claims. The viral posts, which misused the identity of India TV, alleged an internal rift in BJP Assam politics and attempted to drag RSS into the narrative ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

India TV stated that these claims are baseless and part of a misinformation campaign. The clarification comes after several posts, falsely attributed to the media house, were widely shared online.

Responding to the issue, India TV issued a statement warning users about the spread of misinformation:

“Misleading news being spread in the name of IndiaTV,

Be careful!!! Some misleading news is being spread on social media in the name of India TV. These fake news items have been created using AI. Be cautious of such misleading news and follow only the official handles of India TV for correct and accurate news. Legal action will be taken against those who spread misleading news using the name of India TV”

The media house urged the public to rely only on its official social media handles and verified platforms for authentic news, cautioning against unknown and impersonating accounts.

Dragging RSS into political debates has become a habit of offenders, aimed at confusing the public.

Earlier, the Congress party on several occasions spread false news against RSS and dragged it into elections. During the previous Parliamentary elections, Congress played a doctored video to confuse the public.

Critics describe this as a “hit and run” approach — when caught, an apology follows after court intervention, but only after the misinformation has already been circulated for debate. Apologies are made quietly in courts, while misleading narratives continue on social media, with a single agenda to influence public opinion during election time.
