A festive celebration in west Delhi turned tragic when a dispute between two neighbouring families escalated into violence, leading to the death of a young man.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Uttam Nagar, a densely populated locality in the Dwarka district of New Delhi.
The confrontation reportedly began when an 11-year-old girl threw a coloured water-filled balloon onto the road during Holi celebrations. The balloon burst and the water splashed onto a woman from a neighbouring household belonging to another community.
What began as a minor disagreement soon escalated. According to police sources cited in reports, an argument broke out after the woman allegedly hurled abuses, triggering a heated altercation between the two families.
Within minutes, the dispute spiralled into a violent clash involving multiple individuals from both sides.
Victim succumbs to injuries
During the confrontation, Tarun (25) sustained severe injuries after being assaulted in the fight.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but doctors later declared him dead.

Several other individuals were also injured during the altercation as the violence spread through the neighbourhood.
The killing quickly sparked anger among local residents, particularly within the victim’s community, leading to protests and tension across the area.
Protesters block road, set vehicles on fire
Soon after news of Tarun’s death spread, large groups of protesters gathered near the **Delhi Metro’s Uttam Nagar East Metro Station.
Members of organisations including Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad staged demonstrations demanding swift action against the accused.
The protests soon turned violent.
According to reports, a car and a motorcycle were set ablaze, and protesters blocked a major road in the locality, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours.
Images from the scene showed burning vehicles and large crowds gathered on the streets as police attempted to control the situation.
The unrest created panic among residents and led to temporary disruption of movement in the area.
The Delhi Police responded by launching an immediate investigation into the incident.
Authorities confirmed that four individuals have been arrested in connection with the fatal assault, and further inquiries are underway to determine the exact sequence of events.
Police officials said they are examining witness accounts and reviewing evidence to identify any additional suspects involved in the clash.
Amid rising tensions, police have significantly strengthened security in Uttam Nagar and surrounding areas to prevent further unrest.
Senior police officials confirmed that extensive patrolling and surveillance measures have been implemented.
Kushal Pal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Dwarka district, said authorities have reorganised security deployment across the locality.
He stated: “In view of the incident that happened on March 4, we have made adequate security arrangements. We have divided the area into zones, sectors and sub-sectors. Our motorcycles and vehicles are continuously patrolling.”
Police teams are also maintaining a presence in sensitive pockets of the locality to ensure that the situation remains under control.
Officials have urged residents to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumours as the investigation continues.
Police agencies remain on alert to prevent any escalation of tensions, particularly given the communal sensitivities surrounding the incident.
The authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the violence, while additional forces will remain deployed in the area until normalcy is fully restored.
