Exposing the Global ‘Ramzan Offensive’: From Tehran’s ballistic terror to ISIS Massacres from 2015–2026

The period between 2015 and 2026 has witnessed a disturbing and systematic transformation of the holy month of Ramzan into a theatre of global conflict and extremist aggression. From the ballistic missile barrages of the Iranian regime to the cold-blooded suicide missions of ISIS and Al-Qaeda, these actors have weaponised religious fervour to justify an escalation of violence

While the holy month of Ramzan is intended to be a period of spiritual reflection, peace, and charity, the grim reality of 2026 continues to be marred by a disturbing persistence of extremist violence and political conflict. Across the globe, from the heart of the Middle East to the volatile Sahel region, radical factions and insurgent groups- often operating under the guise of religious zeal – have historically used this sacred time to escalate their campaigns of terror.

Far from the ideals of the “holy month,” we see a calculated exploitation of faith to fuel instability, where the heaviest price is paid by the innocent. Civilians remain the primary victims of this relentless aggression, facing mass displacement, the destruction of heritage, and a cycle of casualties that desecrates the very sanctity of the season. This introduction examines the stark contrast between the divine mandate of peace and the man-made tragedies of extremism that continue to haunt the faithful.

Throughout the last decade, the sanctity of the holy month has been repeatedly violated by extremist factions who have historically weaponised the “Ramzan Offensive” to escalate global instability. Below are 19 significant incidents of terror and conflict initiated during Ramzan between 2015 and 2026.

Here is the report on the recent wave of aggression initiated by the Iranian regime and its supporters, highlighting the direct targeting of Western interests and the desecration of the peace usually associated with the holy month.

The Siege of Kuwait: US Embassy Under Fire as Iranian Missiles Strike at Dawn

On March 2, 2026, the skyline of Kuwait City was choked with thick black smoke as the US Embassy became a direct target of the Iranian regime’s “Ramzan Offensive.” In a pre-dawn strike involving a lethal mix of drones and missiles, the Iranian military launched an unprovoked assault on the diplomatic compound. While Kuwaiti defences managed to intercept several UAVs, the attack claimed one life and left 32 others wounded. This brazen strike on a diplomatic mission highlights Tehran’s total disregard for international law and its willingness to export terror into neighbouring Arab states, turning the Gulf into a battlefield during a time meant for prayer.

Tel Aviv in Flames: 12 Dead as Tehran Unleashes Ballistic Terror on Israeli Civilians

In a massive escalation of its regional war, Iran launched a heavy barrage of ballistic missiles into the heart of Israel on March 1, 2026. While the Iron Dome worked overtime, the sheer volume of Iranian fire resulted in a direct, catastrophic hit on a residential neighbourhood in Beit Shemesh. Nine innocent lives were snuffed out instantly as the missile tore through a bomb shelter. With the death toll reaching 12 and over 150 injured, this attack proves that Tehran’s primary targets are not military assets, but women and children. This slaughter during the month of Ramzan exposes the regime’s “religious” rhetoric as a mere mask for cold-blooded expansionism.

Anarchy in Karachi: Pro-Iran Mobs Storm US Consulate, Leaving 22 Dead

The death of Iran’s Supreme Leader has triggered a wave of radicalised violence across Pakistan, with Karachi turning into a war zone on March 1, 2026. Fanatical pro-Iranian mobs attempted to storm the US Consulate, leaving a trail of destruction that included torched police posts and smashed diplomatic property. The violence, which also saw a United Nations office burned to the ground in Skardu, resulted in 22 deaths and over 120 injuries. These clashes demonstrate how Tehran’s extremist ideology has successfully infiltrated and radicalised elements within Pakistan, turning sovereign citizens into foot soldiers for an Iranian agenda.

Mediterranean Under Threat: Iran Targets British Bases in Cyprus

Broadening the theatre of war, Iran launched ballistic missiles toward the island of Cyprus on March 1, 2026, specifically aiming for British military personnel at RAF Akrotiri. Although the missiles fell short, plunging into the Mediterranean, the intent was clear: a direct strike on Western forces stationed on European soil. UK Defence Secretary John Healey condemned the “indiscriminate” nature of the attack, which underscores Tehran’s desperation to strike at Western interests regardless of geography. This failed attempt at mass casualty shows that no corner of the region is safe from the regime’s long-range aggression.

Gulf Sovereignty Violated: Major Arab Cities Targeted in Iranian Missile Blitz

On February 28, 2026, the Iranian regime launched a reckless “missile blitz” across the Gulf, targeting major global hubs including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha. The strikes, aimed at US military footprints and civilian infrastructure, forced the immediate closure of Middle Eastern airspace and caused chaos at Dubai International Airport. With one dead in Abu Dhabi and explosions reported near the Burj Khalifa, Iran has proven that it views its fellow Muslim neighbours as nothing more than collateral damage in its quest for regional dominance. By turning the peaceful month of Ramzan into a period of ballistic terror, Iran has alienated the very world it seeks to influence.

The Durand Line Crisis: Pakistan’s Aerial Assault on Afghan Sovereignty

On February 28, 2026, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) intensified its border conflict with Afghanistan by launching heavy airstrikes into the Khost and Paktika provinces. This retaliatory strike followed a surge in cross-border tensions at the onset of Ramzan. While Islamabad claims to target militant hideouts, the ground reality tells a grimmer story: at least eight civilians, including women and children, were killed in the bombardment. The Afghan Taliban has condemned this as a blatant violation of their sovereignty, retaliating with heavy artillery against Pakistani border posts. This military adventurism has forced thousands to flee their homes along the Durand Line, turning the holy month into a period of displacement and despair for families in the frontier.

“Open War”: Pakistani Airstrikes Claim 17 Civilian Lives in Afghanistan

Just days earlier, on February 22, 2026, a separate PAF operation in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces resulted in a massacre of 17 Afghan civilians. These strikes targeted residential areas under the pretext of curbing militancy, leading to “open war” declarations by Pakistani officials. This aggressive posturing during the first week of Ramzan has shattered diplomatic hopes and further deteriorated the fragile peace between the two neighbors. The indiscriminate nature of these attacks underscores a reckless disregard for civilian life in the pursuit of geopolitical dominance.

Northern Israel Under Fire: Hezbollah Escalates the “Ramzan Offensive”

On March 2, 2026, the Iranian-backed terror proxy Hezbollah officially intensified its campaign against Israel, launching massive rocket and drone barrages across the northern border. These attacks targeted both military installations and civilian towns, forcing thousands of Israelis into bomb shelters during the holy month. By joining the fray in coordination with Tehran’s directives, Hezbollah has turned Northern Israel into a front line of extremist aggression. In a swift response, the IDF conducted retaliatory strikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, aiming to dismantle the infrastructure used to terrorize civilian populations.

Jihad in the Sahel: Al-Qaeda Affiliate JNIM Massacres 50 in Burkina Faso

The extremist group JNIM (Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin) marked the eve of Ramzan on February 27, 2026, with a co-ordinated bloodbath across northern Burkina Faso. In a brutal campaign to enforce radical Sharia law, militants slaughtered over 50 soldiers and civilians in the Yatenga and Soum provinces. Beyond the killings, the group engaged in “economic jihad” by burning granaries and looting essential food supplies, weaponising hunger against the local population. This surge in violence highlights how Al-Qaeda continues to exploit religious periods to expand its reign of terror across the African continent.

Terror in Moscow: ISIS-Caucasus Province Strikes During Ramzan

On February 24, 2026, the Islamic State Caucasus Province brought its brand of radical violence to the heart of Russia. A suicide bomber, identified as Abu Zainab al-Rusi, detonated an explosive device at Savyolovsky Railway Station in Moscow, targeting law enforcement officers. The attack, which killed a senior police lieutenant and injured several others, was officially claimed through ISIS media channels. This strike follows a direct command from ISIS leadership to increase “operational activity” against modern states during Ramzan, proving once again that their extremist vision knows no borders.

A Month of Mourning: Pakistan Records Its Deadliest Ramzan in a Decade

The year 2025 went down in history as the bloodiest Ramzan for Pakistan, as the nation was gripped by an unprecedented surge in extremist activity. According to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), 84 separate attacks were launched by the TTP and ISKP, leaving a trail of over 2,000 deaths across various theaters of conflict. Among the most horrific acts was the cold-blooded hijacking of a train in Balochistan, resulting in 25 fatalities, and a targeted suicide bombing at the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary. This systematic slaughter of security personnel and civilians alike highlights how radical ideologies have turned a period of fasting into a relentless campaign of terror.

The Fambita Massacre: ISGS Gunmen Slaughter 44 Worshippers in Niger

In a chilling display of “Religious Cleansing,” militants from the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) targeted the Fambita Mosque in Western Niger during the final Friday prayers of Ramzan 2025. Proving that even the sanctity of the mosque offers no protection from extremist hate, the assailants surrounded the building and opened fire indiscriminately, killing 44 worshippers. To complete their path of destruction, the terrorists torched the local market and surrounding homes, leaving the village in ruins. This massacre serves as a grim “wake-up call” to the world regarding the unchecked expansion of radical Islamist groups across the Sahel.

Somalia’s Seasonal Siege: Al-Shabaab Weaponises Ramzan in Mogadishu

March 2025 saw the extremist group Al-Shabaab launch its infamous “Ramazan Offensive,” designed to exploit the spiritual focus of the month to strike at the heart of the Somali state. The capital, Mogadishu, was rocked by a series of IED attacks and targeted assassinations. The group particularly targeted military outposts in the Lower Shabelle region, testing the resolve of local forces as international peacekeepers withdrew. By timing these hits during the holy month, Al-Shabaab continues to demonstrate its commitment to using religious periods as a tactical window for guerrilla warfare and political destabilisation.

Terror at the Qahira: Hotel Siege Mars the Start of Ramzan in Beledweyne

The very first day of Ramzan 2025 was marked by a sophisticated multi-pronged assault on the Qahira Hotel in Beledweyne, Somalia. Al-Shabaab militants utilized a massive car bomb to breach the entrance before storming the building with small arms. The hotel, a known hub for government officials and civil society, became a killing field as gunmen engaged in a prolonged standoff with security forces. Seven people lost their lives in this opening act of the “Ramzan Offensive,” proving that the regime of terror values strategic targets over the sanctity of the fasting month.

Pipe Bomb Terror: Southern Thailand Braces for Insurgent “Anniversary” Violence

In Thailand’s Yala province, the start of Ramzan 2025 was met with a cowardly pipe bomb attack on a busy railway crossing. Two motorcycle-borne militants associated with the Platong insurgent group targeted a trailer truck, injuring six civilians. This attack was part of a coordinated effort by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) to celebrate their anniversary through bloodshed. By sabotaging CCTV networks and planting bombs, these insurgents have once again used the cover of the holy month to intimidate the local population and assert their extremist agenda through indiscriminate violence.

The following reports archive a history of betrayal, where extremist factions have repeatedly transformed the most sacred days of the calendar into moments of carnage and sectarian warfare.

The Khalifa Sahib Massacre: Sufi Worshippers Targeted in Kabul’s Bloody Ramzan Finale

On the final Friday of Ramzan 2022, the Khalifa Sahib Mosque in Kabul became a scene of absolute devastation. As hundreds of Sufi worshippers gathered for their traditional Zikr prayers, a massive explosion – orchestrated by the ISKP – ripped through the building. The force of the blast was so catastrophic that it caused the roof to collapse onto the kneeling faithful, leaving at least 50 dead. This cowardly strike was the culmination of a month-long “sectarian cleansing” campaign by radical groups aimed at wiping out minority traditions within the region, proving that even within the same faith, radicalism knows no mercy.

ISIS Resurgence: Multi-Pronged Assault on Iraqi Forces During Ramzan

In May 2020, during the second week of the holy month, ISIS proved that its territorial defeat had not ended its capacity for coordinated terror. The group launched a sophisticated, multi-pronged attack on the headquarters of the Popular Mobilisation Forces in Saladin province. By utilizing “hit-and-run” tactics and sleeper cells, the militants killed at least 10 fighters and wounded many more. Security experts interpreted this surge in violence as a calculated attempt by ISIS to use the “spiritual window” of Ramzan to demonstrate their resurgence and project power across northern and eastern Iraq.

Global Jihad: The Pulse Nightclub Massacre and the Call for Lone Wolf Strikes

The second week of Ramzan 2016 saw the reach of ISIS extremism extend to American soil in one of the deadliest acts of domestic terror in US history. An extremist pledged to ISIS launched a three-hour siege on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, slaughtering 49 people. During the massacre, the gunman explicitly contacted authorities to pledge his allegiance to the caliphate. This attack was a direct response to the global directives issued by ISIS leadership, which urged followers to earn “spiritual rewards” by launching “lone wolf” strikes against Western targets during the holy month.

Sectarian War in the Gulf: Suicide Bombing at Kuwait’s Imam al-Sadiq Mosque

In a chilling violation of Kuwaiti peace, an ISIS suicide bomber infiltrated the historic Imam al-Sadiq Mosque during midday Friday prayers in June 2015. While over 2,000 worshippers were kneeling in prayer, the attacker detonated his vest, killing 27 and wounding 227 others. The ISIS affiliate “Najd Province” claimed responsibility, using derogatory sectarian language to justify the slaughter. This was a deliberate attempt to ignite a sectarian civil war within a stable Gulf state by weaponising the heightened religious sensitivity of the Ramzan period.

The long and tragic list of 19 major incidents – spanning from the streets of Orlando to the mosques of Kabul and the diplomatic compounds of Kuwait – paints a chilling picture of a decade-long war on civilian stability. These events prove that for extremist ideologies, no boundary is sacred and no place of worship is off-limits. Whether it is the Iranian regime targeting sovereign Gulf nations or terror proxies executing worshippers during Friday prayers, the victims are consistently innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of radical expansionism.
