The internet burst into laughter after a video of US President Donald Trump addressing his State of the Union went viral. In the clip, he is heard saying, “Pakistan PM would’ve died if it were not for my involvement,” while referring to the military tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations, Bharat and Pakistan, in May 2025. Notably, he did not correct the statement during the entire briefing. However, sections of the Western media interpreted the remark as him describing his role in preventing a wider conflict. Trump also cited what he claimed was praise from Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, suggesting he had saved “35 million” people and portraying himself as central to de-escalating military tensions.
The video quickly became a source of satire online. Many users took to X to ridicule Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition, posting comments such as “Burnol for Pakistan and Opposition” and “This might finally be the moment when the Indian opposition stops believing Trump.”
However, some posts described Trump’s remark as deliberate rather than a slip of the tongue. Senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani took to X to share the Donald Trump video. According to him, the single line — “Pakistan PM would have died…” — itself validates the success of Operation Sindoor. He wrote that Trump’s remark shows the operation was effective. In his view, the strike put strong pressure on Pakistan and forced it to step back. He also criticised the Indian Opposition, saying it weakened the country’s unity during the crisis. He also added- “India doesn’t need certificates. The outcome is the certificate: Pakistan needed outside talking points, outside intervention claims, and outside face-savers. But this is the New India that imposed cost and forced recalibration.”
What the Senior Lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said
“Pakistan PM would have died…”
That one line from Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union tells you more than a thousand press notes. Forget the hyperbole. Forget the drama. The signal is blunt: Pakistan was in a corner, escalation had moved beyond control, and the brag is itself an admission that Pakistan wasn’t dictating terms – Pakistan was seeking an exit.
Which brings us to the obvious: Operation Sindoor worked. India hit with intent, controlled the tempo, and left Pakistan staring at consequences. That’s why the conversation shifted from “retaliation” to “de-escalation.” That’s why third parties suddenly became very “concerned.”

“Trump said the Truth”- Says posts
A few posts snubbed the Opposition Congress party for earlier dismissing Operation Sindoor as a failure. According to these users, Trump did not misspeak but spoke plainly, implying that his intervention saved Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s life.
However, a section of social media users has treated Trump’s remark as a serious and deliberate statement rather than a slip of the tongue. Some of them argue that the US President was clearly referring to a life-threatening escalation and not exaggerating for effect.
Many targeted the Opposition Congress party, which had earlier described Operation Sindoor as a failure. According to these users, Trump’s statement reinforces the view that the situation was far more critical than portrayed by the Opposition, and that his intervention played a decisive role in ensuring that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s life — and potentially millions of others — was not put at risk.

Those who think Trump’s remark as slip of the tongue mocked Rahul Gandi and the congress party. One X handle wrote ” Waiting for @RahulGandhi to say that the US President is compromised”

“Pakistan PM would’ve died if it were not for my involvement,”
“In my first 10 months, I ended eight wars… Pakistan and India would have had a nuclear war. 35 million people said the Prime Minister of Pakistan would have died if it were not for my involvement…” Trump said in his address.
Trump appeared to misspeak during his State of the Union address. What he likely meant was that the Pakistan Prime Minister had said 35 million people could have died if Trump had not intervened. The US president has repeatedly claimed that he helped bring India and Pakistan to the negotiating table and prevented a larger conflict.
However, India has firmly rejected any suggestion of third-party mediation during Operation Sindoor, stating that it managed the situation independently. Operation Sindoor was launched as a military response to cross-border terrorism following the Pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terror attack.
Bharat’s reaction on Trump’s Claims
Trump has often said that he helped Bharat and Pakistan start talks and stopped a bigger war from happening. However, Bharat has denied that any third country helped reduce tensions during Operation Sindoor. It said the military action was its own decision. Operation Sindoor was carried out against cross-border terrorism after the Pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terror attack.
