The separatist militant group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), has released a video claiming to show seven Pakistani Army personnel, who it says were recently captured, directly contradicting official denials from Pakistan’s military.
The footage reportedly depicts the men kneeling on the ground in rugged terrain, flanked by armed militants. It comes just three days ahead of the February 22 deadline set by the BLA for a proposed prisoner swap, with the group warning that the detainees could be executed if negotiations fail.
In response, the detainees showed their official service cards and national identity documents on camera, asserting that they had been formally recruited, issued proper identification, and deployed by the army.

Earlier reports indicated that the Baloch Liberation Army had captured seven personnel last week. However, the latest video shows eight individuals in custody.
One visibly emotional soldier declares, “I fight for Pakistan, and today the Pakistani Army does not own me.” He tearfully questions the army’s denials, asking, “How can the army say that we are not their personnel?”
The detained men appealed to Pakistan’s military and government authorities, urging them to agree to the BLA’s demand for a prisoner exchange involving Baloch detainees. They called on officials to negotiate and meet the group’s conditions, so they could be released and return home safely.
Through its media wing, Hakkal, the Baloch Liberation Army has reiterated that with just three days remaining in its seven-day ultimatum, negotiations must begin immediately. The group warned that failure to start talks within the deadline could put the detained personnel at risk of execution. So far, Pakistan’s military and government have not issued any new response to the video.
The BLA seeks independence for Balochistan, a province in Pakistan’s southwest bordering Afghanistan to the north and Iran to the west. It is the largest of several ethnic insurgent groups that have long clashed with the federal government, accusing Islamabad of unfairly exploiting the province’s rich gas and mineral resources. Pakistan, however, consistently denies these claims and designates the BLA as a terrorist organisation.
