The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts in Karimnagar following the local body elections held on 11 February. BJP corporator Kolagani Srinivas (Ward 2) was elected as Mayor with the support of 34 corporators, while Sunil Rao (Ward 42) was elected as Deputy Mayor. Earlier, the newly elected members of the governing body took the oath at the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation office.
The election officer formally announced the results. Special Officer RDO Mahesh administered the oath to the members. Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay, Manakondur MLA, and ex-officio member Satyanarayana attended this programme.
The total number of seats is 66, of which the BJP won 30 seats, the INC won 14 seats, the BRS won 9 seats, Independents won 8 seats, the AIMIM won 3 seats, and the AIFB won 2 seats.
It is learnt that Congress, BRS, MIM, All India Forward Block (AIFB) members, and Independents tried to turn the Corporation in their favour by any means. Still they tried till the end for the Mayor post.
In the 66-seat Karimnagar Corporation, although BJP won the highest 30 seats, suspense prevailed over whether it would prove its strength and capture the chair.
As part of this, it is learnt that separate camps were conducted at a resort in the outskirts of Hyderabad city. For the Mayor post, a numerical tug-of-war continued between the two sides (Congress and BJP). Finally, BJP secured the Mayor’s chair.
Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay acted strategically in securing the Karimnagar Mayor post. The Congress candidate who contested for Mayor got 21 votes. BRS remained neutral.
Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay said on X, “This is not just a political victory; it is an emotional moment. It feels like a dream that many of us carried quietly for years. In the very ward where the Majlis party office stands, our karyakartas hoisted the saffron flag. That sight will stay with me forever. It speaks of courage. It speaks of change.”

Bandi Sanjay praised that democracy stood firm on the soil of Karimnagar. He said this was possible with the cooperation of the people. He stated that BJP won in the kabaddi cup played with neighbouring parties.
He accused Congress leaders of indulging in many conspiracies and that all cannot be revealed, adding that the dream of hoisting the saffron flag over Karimnagar municipal body has been fulfilled.
“Politics is only till elections; afterwards politics should be kept aside. We entered the fray with the intention of developing Karimnagar. For Karimnagar’s development we will meet Union ministers and State ministers. Even if the State government does not give funds because a BJP Mayor is there, we will not leave it,” Sanjay clarified.
Questioning what BRS, MIM, and Congress parties together achieved, he alleged that although BJP won in elections, the three parties conspired together to defeat it in the Mayor election.
“CM Revanth Reddy garu… there is no conspiracy you did not do along with ministers, BRS, and MIM to prevent the BJP, which won majority seats, from getting the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts. Yet before Bandi Sanjay’s politics and the fighting spirit of BJP soldiers, all your conspiracies collapsed. Just like Pakistan’s grand victory over India in cricket, in the kabaddi game of Karimnagar municipal elections… defeating all of you, BJP won the cup,” he said.
The outcome is being seen as an indicator of the BJP’s expanding organisational and electoral footprint in Karimnagar, a city and district widely regarded as a key centre in Telangana’s political discourse and reflects the party’s growing consolidation at the grassroots level.
